Meghan Markle reveals she is 'devastated' by the loss of her canine companion as the Duchess of Sussex announces her beagle dog, Guy, died on Tuesday, January 7 in an emotional post to Instagram.
A series of photos and videos were uploaded to the website as the 43-year-old grieves the loss of her pet, who she says she can't stop crying over. The photos even include rare glimpses of her two children by Prince Harry, Archie and Lilibet, who's privacy the family strenuously protect, as they mourn the loss.
One video showed the five-year-old Archie, who is sixth in the line of succession to the British throne and the grandson of King Charles III, holding Guy's leash whilst his parents walked over to a group of horses.
Another video showed the ex-Suits actress and her three-year-old daughter in the park on a sunny day as they enjoyed the weather together, along with their dogs which included Guy too as he stood on guard watching Lilibet play.
"In memory of Guy," Markle began in a moving Instagram post. "In 2015, I adopted a beagle from a dog rescue in Canada. He had been at a kill shelter in Kentucky and given a few days to live. I swooped him up....and fell in love.
"They referred to him as 'the little guy' because he was so small and frail, so I named him 'Guy'. And he was the best guy any girl could have asked for. If you followed me on instagram back in the day, you saw a lot of him - and on The Tig too.
"He was with me at Suits, when I got engaged, (and then married), when I became a mom....he was with me for everything: the quiet, the chaos, the calm, the comfort."
Markle links Guy to her new TV series
Markle also described how he needed surgery and was forecast to never walk again after surgeries following an accident, but the canine managed to find his feet thanks to the team at the Queen West Animal Hospital.
She also said fans will see a lot of Guy in her new TV series, which releases on January 15 via Netflix, named With Love, Meghan.
"Because many of you will now see Guy in this new series," Markle added. "I hope you'll come to understand why I am so devastated by his loss. I think you may fall a little bit in love too.
"I have cried too many tears to count - the type of tears that make you get in the shower with the absurd hope that the running water on your face will somehow make you not feel them, or pretend they're not there. But they are. And that's okay too.
"Thank you for so many years of unconditional love, my sweet Guy. You filled my life in ways you'll never know."
