Meghan Markle welcomed the new year with a post on Instagram. This marks the first time that Markle has used the platform under her own name since she married Prince Harry in 2018.
On January 1, 2025, Markle uploaded a video of herself on the beach to her account, aptly dubbed “Meghan.” The video shows the Duchess of Sussex in a white, long-sleeved tunic and a pair of white pants that she rolled up. She runs barefoot along a desolate beach, her long, dark hair blowing in the wind. She stops in an area not too far from the sea to write the numbers “2025” in the sand.
According to Page Six, Prince Harry was the person behind the camera.
The only sound in the video is the ocean waves and Markle’s laugh. She turned the comments on the post off.
Many People Are Excited for Meghan Markle’s Official Return to Instagram
After Markle’s first post was published on Instagram, some people took to Reddit to react. Perhaps unsurprisingly, her fans are very excited to see what she’s going to be posting now that the account is officially active.
“Yay!!! Always rooting for her and hopefully we get to see more of her this year,” one person wrote on a thread about the beach video.
“I was in absolute shock! This is amazing,” someone else said.
“This is so much fun!! Love this,” a third comment read.
“So happy for Meghan and her family! Happy new year everyone,” a fourth Redditor added.
Meghan Markle Changed Her Profile Photo on Instagram
Rumors that Markle was going to make a return to the social media platform have been circulating for well over a year.
While Markle once used Instagram on a regular basis, she forwent her account when she married into the royal family. She and her husband used the site under their official Sussex account, but signed off of “Sussexroyal” in 2020.
At some point in 2023, Markle claimed the Instagram handle “@meghan.” She changed the profile photo, adding a picture of flowers, and started collecting follows.
“Meghan was set to go live on Insta, but changed her mind shortly before she launched her ‘Archetypes’ podcast, so it’s just sitting there now,” a source previously told Page Six.
Meanwhile, in a 2022 interview with The Cut, Markle shared, “I’m getting back … on Instagram.” Two years later, she followed through.
Aside from uploading her 2025 beach video, Markle also changed her profile photo. It’s now a black-and-white picture of herself. The account already has more than 200,000 followers.
