Many people use the dawn of a brand new year to embark on a fresh start - and Meghan Markle was once among them.

The Duchess of Sussex once admitted that she makes the same New Year's resolutions each year in a bid to improve her life - but confessed she struggles to keep them, especially after she has had a "few drinks". Meghan made the admission on her blog The Tig in January 2016 - just months before she met her future husband Prince Harry. And she described some of the habits she'd like to give up as "unladylike".

She wrote: "Run a marathon. Stop biting my nails. Stop swearing. Re-learn French. These make my New Year's resolution list nearly (AKA actually every) single year. The marathon hasn't happened. The swearing comes in lulls triggered by being overworked or feeling mighty cheeky after a couple of drinks.

"Then there's the French – a language I studied through high school and then lost as I immersed myself in speaking Spanish with the Argentinians during my stint in Buenos Aires. I have put my little Rosetta Stone headset in my eager ears every year, resolving to do interviews en français, but much to my chagrin, it hasn't stuck. And when it comes to the biting of the nails – well, it still happens with a turbulent flight or a stressful day. It's unladylike. But then again, so is the swearing. Dammit."

So in a bid not to disappoint herself that year, Meghan decided against making resolutions. She added: "For this new year, the only thing I aim to do is to approach life playfully. To laugh and enjoy, to keep my standards high but my level of self-acceptance higher. My New Year's resolution is to leave room for magic. To make my plans, and be okay if they sometimes break. To set my goals, but to be open to change."

It's not exactly known what 2025 will bring for Meghan or husband Prince Harry. However, next month both are expected to travel to Canada for the Harry's Invictus Games, which are taking place in Vancouver and Whistler. The year could also see Meghan officially launch her new brand American Riviera Orchard.

Meghan revealed her new brand last March when a new website and Instagram page were unveiled to much fanfare. But despite the initial announcement, her wares have been shared only with celebrity friends, who showcased her American Riviera Orchard jam on social media in April.

So far, products have not been available yet to buy on the site and in October, it emerged her application to have her brand trademark had been rejected. She was then given three months to respond to the "nonfinal officer action" issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). She has been warned that failure to do so could result in her application being abandoned.
