It’s no secret that Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has never had a great relationship with her brother-in-law, Prince William. Not only are there not many photos or videos of the pair talking publicly, but we all know about the royal rift between them, along with Prince Harry and Catherine, Princess of Wales. However, former servants and palace insiders are spilling the beans, now alleging that Meghan’s love for hugs allegedly made William “uncomfortable.”

Tom Quinn’s upcoming book Yes Ma’am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants, “This tactile manner made William uncomfortable because Meghan hugged him virtually every time they bumped into each other;” and apparently, he’s not the only one.

Quinn told InTouch Weekly that even the members of staff were uncomfortable with it.

“I was astonished to hear from a couple of members of staff that one of the things the royals found difficult about Meghan was that she was a bit too relaxed. She was constantly hugging and embracing various royals and even senior members of staff,” he said. “The hugging and cheek-kissing fueled gossip among the staff that Meghan was flirting with William, which she was obviously not. But the tense atmosphere caused by all the touchy-feeliness (and the resultant gossip) deepened the rift between the brothers.”

Now, this isn’t shocking since Harry wrote in Spare about William and Meghan’s first meeting, writing, “I introduced Meg, who leaned in and gave him a hug, which completely freaked him out. He recoiled. Willy didn’t hug many strangers. Whereas Meghan hugged most strangers.”

Along with that, it was alleged that this hugging made Kate uncomfortable. (However, one of Kate’s pals told People that this is quite different than what they’ve seen of Kate. “Kate’s a big hugger,” they said. “She is warm and friendly and greets everyone with a big hug and kiss. It comes naturally to her to be like that.”)

So it seems Meghan’s affectionate nature didn’t sit right with some, but it’s clear her husband Harry and pals love it.
