Actress Michelle Keegan has announced she is expecting her first baby with husband Mark Wright, but the happy couple told the nearest and dearest weeks ago.
The former Coronation Street actress and star on Netflix ’s Fool Me Once shared a photo of her holding her bump while standing opposite Mark, who rose to fame on the reality TV show The Only Way Is Essex, on a beach.
Michelle wore a white off-the-shoulder top and skirt and Mark a beige shirt and trousers in the Instagram post shared on Sunday evening. It was captioned "2025 is going to be a special one for us" followed by a baby emoji.
It's reported the cute snap was taken in Majorca at the start of November. Mark and Michelle are huge fans of the Spanish island and even own a holiday home over there. Michelle shared some snaps during the trip last month, concealing her bump as she told fans; "A couple of days in our favourite place before the Christmas build-up begins."
According to a friend of the couple, Michelle and Mark "kept their pregnancy quiet for a long time" as they wanted to enjoy the moment for themselves at first. "Starting a family has been something they have wanted to do for a long time," a source close to the parents-to-be has said.
Speaking to The Sun, the insider added: "They are both in amazing places in their careers and their family home in Essex is all completed. The timing could not have been more perfect." They added how Mark and Michelle's "immediate family have known for a while."
Pregnant Michelle hid her bump during an outing in Essex last week as she and husband Mark narrowly avoided a run in with his ex fiancée Lauren Goodger. Former TOWIE star Mark, 37, had a well-documented relationship with Lauren, 38, that lasted for a decade before they finally called it quits in 2012.
Mark then began dating Michelle, also 37, whom he married in 2015 and this weekend shared the joyous news that they are expecting their first child together. However, just over a week prior to the announcement, Mark and Lauren nearly crossed paths while he was out celebrating a family member's birthday.
The reality TV star was out with his wife and family to celebrate his dad, Mark Wright Sr's 68th birthday at Sheesh in Essex, with James Argent providing the night's entertainment. But there was an unexpected turn of events when Mark Jr and his wife Michelle realised that Lauren was at the same venue.
Mark's sister Jess Wright was spotted entering the popular Essex spot, passing Lauren's parked Range Rover on her way in. To avoid any awkward encounters, Mark and Michelle made a low-key entrance through a fire exit to dodge Lauren. Their Range Rover was later brought around to the car park for a quick getaway. Despite it being ten years since their breakup, it seems Mark is still eager to avoid any potential reunion.
Michelle and Keegan began dating in 2012, got engaged in 2013 and were married in May 2015. The celebrity couple, both 37, now live together in Essex. Mark's brother Josh was among those to congratulate the couple as Michelle's pregnancy was revealed on Sunday, commenting on the post: "Over the moon for you both and can’t wait for our boys to meet your little one."
Mark's friend and fellow The Only Way Is Essex star James Argent also said he "can’t wait to be a uncle" to their new baby." "I love you and I’m so happy for you both. (You’re) going to be amazing parents", he added. Mark's mother said she was "super excited" to welcome another grandchild as she shared the same announcement photo to her Instagram. Geordie Shore star Vicky Pattison, fellow former Coronation Street actress Georgia May Foote, Emmerdale actor Danny Miller and The Saturdays singer Rochelle Humes were also among the famous faces to send their best wishes to the couple.
Michelle began her acting career in TV playing Tina McIntyre in ITV soap opera Coronation Street, joining the show in 2008. Following her departure in 2014, she went on to star in the hit army drama Our Girl as corporal Georgie Lane and in the comedy-drama Brassic as Erin Croft. She is set to return as Kate Thorne for another series of Ten Pound Poms, a drama about a group of Brits who decide to leave post-war Britain.
Following his time on reality TV, Wright gained further recognition after finishing as a runner-up on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2011 and was a finalist in BBC ’s Strictly Come Dancing in 2014. He is currently a presenter on Heart radio ’s Saturday afternoon slot.
