A cleaning guru has shared her simple trick for making sure her home’s mirror stays completely streak-free.
Chantel Mila, also known as @mama_mila_ on TikTok revealed all you need is one common household staple as your holy grail.
When it comes to keeping your mirrors sparkling clean, Chantel opts for shaving foam to do the job.
In a video from January, she explained that buffing shaving foam on a small amount of shaving foam onto “hazy mirrors” will make them shine and remove any unwanted fingerprint marks.
In another video from September 2024, Chantel used the same hack again to clean her bathroom mirror.

She explained that not only will shaving foam leave the mirror streak-free, but it can also help prevent it from fogging up.
Chantel further explained that there’s another way to help emphasise the hack even more, which requires a simple flick of a switch.
She explained: “Always turn lights off before cleaning mirrors for a streak-free finish.”
After using the shaving foam, you can use a dry cloth to buff the mirror to sparkling perfection.
Victorian Plumbing warns cleaners to not add too much shaving foam to the mirror, as this will leave steaks on the glass, and won’t have the desired effect.
Shaving foam helps to prevent steaks due to its surfactant content.

#4 is the secret to streak-free mirrors which tip will you try first? 1. You guys know I love to mix 1 cup white vinegar, 2 tbs dish soap and tea tree oil to cut through soap scum + rid mould 2. Always leave your detergent sitting for 15 mins to do the hard work of breaking down soap scum before cleaning - this helps to minimise scrubbing time 3. Buff shaving cream on mirrors to clean them + prevent fogging 4. Always turn lights off before cleaning mirrors for a streak-free finish - the heat from the light makes your detergent dry faster which can lead to streaking 5. Surfactants help to break down dirt and grime, allowing for a more even distribution of cleaning agents across the glass surface when wiped away, leaving a streak-free finish.
It acts as a lubricant that helps the cleaning cloth glide smoothly over the mirror’s surface without leaving behind any residue.
Ottilie Blackhall wrote for Homes & Gardens: “Ta da! From start to finish, this process took eight minutes – which is reason enough to give it a go.
“Asides from that, unlike when I tried cleaning my shower glass with a potato, my mirror generally looked incredibly good, without any water marks, stains, lint or streaks, so I will definitely be making it a regular part of my 15-minute bathroom cleaning and organizing routine. It's a perfect method for anyone trying to clean a bathroom in 30 minutes or less.”
