A New Jersey mom was brutally murdered in front of her family just weeks after giving birth, say authorities.

According to a report from the South Brunswick Police Department, on January 9 officers responded to a call regarding an unresponsive female at a residence in South Brunswick Township. When they finally arrived around 3:15 p.m., they sadly found Lauren Saldana in the home and pronounced her dead at the scene. So tragic. But this is where things took a turn for the horrifying…

Police began investigating the 38-year-old’s death as a homicide, and named 41-year-old Roman Romanovskiy as a suspect. Per their report, the alleged perpetrator was someone who knew Saldana well, and it led law enforcement to believe this was not a random attack. What’s more disturbing, though, is investigators said one of the victim’s four children was present at the time of her death.

A GoFundMe made by Saldana’s family alleges her 5-year-old was there when Romanovskiy allegedly killed her, and to make matters more heartbreaking she was only three weeks postpartum with her fourth child. The description reads:

“This tragedy is made even more painful and brutal by the fact that Lauren was 3 weeks postpartum and her 5-year-old son witnessed her murder. He is now faced with trauma no child should ever have to endure. His sister is fighting to gain custody of him to ensure he has the stability, care, and love he needs to begin healing.”

So, so awful.

Romanovskiy was arrested, per the police report, and charged with first-degree murder along with second and third-degree charges endangering the welfare of a child.

In the GoFundMe description, Saldana’s family said ongoing domestic violence was a big factor in her murder. Her eldest daughter Madison Saldana told local outlet News 12 of the relationship between her mother and Romanovskiy:

“It was not a healthy relationship. It was a rollercoaster. They broke up, they tried to stay away from each other, but in the end, she always wanted to be with her son.”

Just gut-wrenching. Those poor children. If you’d like to donate to the family to help them with final expenses, you can go HERE.

Our heart goes out to Lauren’s family and loved ones. May they find peace as they try to navigate this unthinkable tragedy.
