SUPERSTAR Taylor Swift dominated the live music scene last summer — but she is well down the charts on ticket prices, stats reveal.

The most expensive acts to see last year were mainly grizzled veterans, with Irish rockers U2 the priciest at an average of nearly £300 a pop.

US star Taylor, 35, played to more than one million people in the UK last year alone. Tickets for her Eras world tour cost an average of £163 — but that only put her at No17 in the price list.

Top of the global charts were U2 — led by frontman Bono, 64 — who charged an average of £287 during their residency at The Sphere in Las Vegas.

Hot on their heels was US star Garth Brooks, 62, whose fans coughed up £285. In third was Lady Gaga, 38, with shows costing £252.

Hotel California old-timers Eagles, who played a five-night residency in Manchester last year, were next on £239.

Latin American rapper Bad Bunny, at 30 the youngest in the top ten, charged £228.

US country act George Strait, 72, was sixth on £227, followed by The Rolling Stones (£226), then Dead And Company (£224), who are made up of former Grateful Dead members.

Los Bukis, a Mexican band formed in 1973, were ninth on £210, followed by Sting, 73, and Billy Joel, 75, whose joint shows set fans back by an average of £191.

Meanwhile, Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour, 78, and Madonna, 66, also charged more than Taylor, according to music analysts at Pollstar’s Year End Special.

Adele, who had a residency in Las Vegas last year, did not make her figures available.

Industry experts said that U2 and Garth topped the ticket price list because they solely played in the US — where additional taxes are bolted on.

Artists such as Taylor played dates in the UK and Europe, where these additional taxes do not apply.

It came as the government yesterday announced plans to cap the price of resale tickets in a effort to thwart touts.

The move was backed by Coldplay who said: “A UK ban on ticket resale profiteering will be great news for fans.”
