What's New
A small plane crashed in Lakewood, New Jersey, leaving four injured, according to local news outlets.
Newsweek reached out to the Lakewood Township Municipal Airport via phone for comment.
Why It Matters
Police received a call about a small plane crash at the Lakewood Township Municipal Airport on Thursday shortly before 4 p.m., the Lakewood Police Department told Newsweek.
The plane was found in a wooded area.
"Upon arrival, emergency service responders located a small plane in the wood line with four injured passengers," Captain Gregory Staffordsmith said. "At this time, the extent of injuries are not known, nor the reason for the crash."
Local news outlets reported that multiple people were injured. The Lakewood Scoop identified one victim as Chasdei Hashem.
The Ocean County Sheriff reported on Facebook at 5:30 p.m. ET that "all aboard are safe."
What To Know
The Lakewood Scoop posted a photo on X, formerly Twitter, that showed the plane with its nose in the wooded area, and the rest of the aircraft was pointed out from the ground at an angle. The plane looks like it went directly into a tree, which is caught in the upper wings of the small aircraft. The plane's tail was almost entirely off, hanging to the side.
The plane had the inscription N12194 on the side, and it had red and blue stripes.
A large emergency response was on the scene, with at least a dozen vehicles parked near the crash in one of The Lakewood Scoop's photos, as well as an ambulance. No victims were depicted in the emergency vehicle or nearby it seeking medical attention.
Another photo shows a long firehose wrapped around the plane and throughout the wooded area and field it landed next to. The aircraft did not appear to be on fire in the photo, but at least seven firefighters were seen gathered around the plane crash.
It is unclear what led to the crash. However, The Lakewood Scoop said the crash occurred during the plane's descent.
