Glasgow's Govan district has made an unexpected cameo in what is rumoured to be Netflix's most expensive series ever.
The southside locale sets the scene for the opening of an episode of Netflix's 3 Body Problem, a show that reportedly cost a whopping $20 million per episode to produce.
Govan even gets a shout-out from one of the main characters. This ambitious eight-part sci-fi series is based on a series of Chinese novels by Liu Cixin, titled Remembrance of Earth's Past.
The series gained attention for its hefty budget, which according to the Hollywood Reporter, stands at $160 million. The plot kicks off with scientists mysteriously dying while working on significant technological advancements.
A group of university pals, known as the 'Oxford Five', who are a mix of successful scientists, educators and businesspeople, find themselves tangled up in the mystery. They eventually uncover that alien forces, the 'San-Ti', are behind the strange deaths.
These menacing beings are on their way to Earth but are several centuries away.
In a bid to shield the world from the impending invasion, the head of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6), Thomas Wade - portrayed by Irish Game of Thrones actor Liam Cunningham - enlists members of the Oxford Five to the global Strategic Intelligence Agency, where he is orchestrating planetary defence, reports Glasgow Live.
In the fifth instalment of the series, Wade journeys to Glasgow in search of Prithviraj Varma, a Royal Navy Officer and boyfriend of one of the Oxford Five.
Varma, portrayed by actor Saamer Usmani (known for Succession, Inventing Anna), is about to take command of a destroyer docked at Govan.

Wade tries to recruit Varma, who initially seems unimpressed by him. Wade challenges him with: "Ask yourself why I would come all the way to f****** Govan to find you.
"Why would I-and I'm the busiest man you ever met-spend hours talking to your commanding officers, your college instructors and everyone else you met along the way?"
After revealing his true identity to Varma, Wade questions him: "Why did you join the Navy? " "To defend my country," Varma responds.
"What I need you for is far more important," Wade informs him.
