New Destiny 2 SMG is a hip-fire beast that’s ridiculously fun in PvP

3 hours ago 3

Although it hasn’t exactly taken over the meta, Boondoggle MK. 55 is a new submachine gun in Destiny 2 that is undoubtedly one of the most fun weapons to use in PvP.

Dubbed the “Legendary Huckleberry,” this gun is a Kinetic SMG based on the design of its Exotic cousin. This initially had the community very excited, but the reveal of its mediocre perk pool quickly dampened the hype.

When compared to competitors like Multimach CCX, it’s clear that Boondoggle MK. 55 is far from a meta PvE weapon. However, that doesn’t mean you should ignore it entirely, as there’s a PvP roll that is as fun to use as it is competitive.

Boondoggle Mk. 55 shines as a hip-fire beast that can laser enemy Guardians without you even having to ADS. This is thanks to the lethal perk combination of Hip-Fire Grip and Offhand Strike, both of which boost accuracy, stability, and range when firing from the hip.

This is not only the first SMG to get access to this specific roll, but Boondoggle’s Origin Trait also gives it remarkable synergy with these perks. After damaging enemies while hip-firing, Tex Balanced Stock activates and increases handling, reload speed, and movement speed while aiming down sights.

The gameplay loop then is to open up with a hip-fire kill before aiming in to clean up anyone leftover with the boosted range. Thanks to its TTK of just 750 ms, Boondoggle MK. 55 beats most other primary weapons too, so you’ll be able to dominate once this setup is done.

Admittedly, the fact this gun needs setup to reach its potential in the first place is a big reason why it isn’t in the PvP meta. When compared to other SMGs that are more popular, like The Immortal and Unending Tempest, the work required isn’t usually worth it. Even so, there’s no doubt this gun is a lot of fun to use and a great option for those wanting something different.

How to get Boondoggle Mk. 55

Boondoggle Mk. 55 is a World Drop weapon earned by opening up Legendary Engrams from a wide range of activities.

However, relying on this approach is RNG-dependent, so a more reliable method is to complete either Expert or Master difficulty Lost Sectors whenever Boondoggle Mk. 55 is in rotation. You can check out the full schedule to find out when the Kinetic SMG will next be featured.

The other option is to give Eido a visit in The Last City and fulfill her daily Tonic Requests. Doing so rewards random items, including World Drop weapons. While it’s unlikely you’ll get the exact roll you want, this is still worthwhile if you have a lot of Reagents or are trying to farm multiple World Drop weapons at once.

Unfortunately, the Tome of Want does not drop World Drop weapons from this season, so that won’t help you here. Likewise, Enriching Tonics don’t include Heresy weapons either, leaving you stuck with the methods listed above.
