Nicole Scherzinger is addressing her controversial social media actions.
If you have not kept up with the drama surrounding the Pussycat Dolls member, here is what happened. After news broke that Donald Trump beat Kamala Harris in the presidential election on Wednesday, Russell Brand took to Instagram to celebrate the win by posting a picture of himself with a MAGA-esque hat that said, “Make Jesus First Again.” FYI, in the middle of his rape and sexual assault allegations and investigation, the comedian rebranded, adopting Christianity and getting baptized. He also wrote in the caption:
“God Bless America”

And guess which celebrity commented on the post? Nicole. She apparently loved the hat so much that she asked in the comments section:
“Where do I get this hat?”
WTF.

Once people caught wind of her since-deleted comment, they were not happy. Let’s start with the fact that Nicole is following and posting in the Instagram comments section of someone accused of assault and rape by several women. Then, social media users speculated she was a Trump supporter. Not only because of her remark on Russell’s post, but because people did some digging and found she liked a post by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. It read:
”Yes, @russellbrand, @tuckercarlson, I will restore free speech, end the forever wars and protect children’s health once we get @realdonaldtrump back in the White House.”
Too many people will write off Nicole Scherzinger’s comment about wanting that hat as a harmless accident. This is less so: pic.twitter.com/Sp5IXKX4hU

Yeah, you can see why people thought she was a Trump supporter. Now, after receiving a bunch of backlash online, Nicole has taken to Instagram Stories to apologize and explain herself. She wrote in a lengthy statement on Friday:
“I deeply apologize for the hurt caused by my recent engagement with some social media posts. When I commented on these posts, I made the mistake of not realizing that they could be easily interpreted as being politically related and I apologize to anyone who understandably reached that conclusion. Many presumptions are being drawn, which do not reflect who I am, what I stand for, or who I voted for. Many of the marginalized communities feeling hurt and concerned by the results of the presidential election are people I care about most. I stand with them, as I always have, throughout my life and career. If you know me, you know that.”
“Presumptions”? How else were people supposed to interrupt Nicole engaging with two post supporting Trump? The Broadway star went on today how she turns to her faith “in times of adversity and uncertainty,” adding:
“I believed that the posts I engaged with were about encouraging people to choose love and faith — ‘putting Jesus first.’ For me Christ embodies peace, compassion, hope, and — above all — unconditional love, especially for those who may feel it the least right now. I come from a place of love, and I will always support values that bring us closer together. It’s so important we come together with compassion, and love one another more now than ever.”
