IF you don’t recall the name Amy Studt, you might remember her face as one of the rising pop stars of the early noughties.

But now, more than 20 years since her chart topping song, Misfit, the singer, appears almost unrecognisable from the pop star heyday.

The 38-year-old recently appeared in an episode of Sky Max’s Never Mind the Buzzcocks, where she was part of the line-up game for their noughties special.

The panel, including singer Beth Ditto and former Radio 1 DJ, Nick Grimshaw, had to guess which woman in the line up, was Amy Studt.

On her Tiktok page, the singer explained why she'd agreed to be part of the skit.

“A little while ago I took myself off to film in an episode of Never Mind The Buzzcocks in their line up game for their 00’s special.

After a little considering, I decided that having professional comedians take the piss out of me on telly sounded like a LOT of fun and I was gonna do everything I could to win the game of not laughing.”

“If you don’t know the game, the line ups are tested to stay emotionless whilst the comedians do everything they can to make you laugh.”

Indeed the singer confirmed that it was a lovely day out for her and her husband.

She said: “Me and my hubby drove up to London and were treated so nicely. Such a great team on this show and behind the scenes.”

A slew of people on TikTok rushed in to reminisce about her short lived success. One person refers to the green dress she wore in the Misfit video. They said: “That green dress is such a vibe.”

Another said: “The song came on while I was watching and it took me right back.”

Meanwhile another person referred to her debut album False Smiles: “SO many tunes on the False Smiles album.” To which Amy herself replied: “So glad you like it.”

The singer was born into a musical family in London but was brought up near Dorset.

Her father was a violinist who had toured with 50s rock legend, Roy Orbison.

She started writing music in adolescence having won a 50 per cent music scholarship to the £13,000 a term, Independent boarding school, Bryanston in Dorset.

During this time she wrote around 42 songs and and was signed to Polydor records while still just a teenager.

She then released her first single, “Just a Little Girl in July 2002, which was followed a year later by Misfit which reached number 6 in the UK charts.

That same month her debut album False Smiles was released and after selling 260,000 copies, was certified gold.

Then came two more singles: Under the Thub and All I Wanna Do, both in 2003. But after diminishing sales, she was ruthlessly dropped by the record label in February 2004, before her 18th birthday.

After struggling with depression and anxiety, Studt suffered a nervous break down aged just 22, and retreated from the public eye to recovery.

In 2017 she’d returned to the studio to start making music again and released another album, Happiest Girl in the Universe in 2019.
