Snowboarder Sophie Hediger has sadly passed away at just 26.
According to reports out of Switzerland, the young Olympian was snowboarding at the mountain resort Arosa on December 23 when tragedy struck. While on the mountain, she was caught up in a sudden avalanche and lost her life amid the deluge of snow. So, so heartbreaking. She was so very young.
Sophie was a part of the Swiss snowboarding team that took part in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China. She even went on to get World Cup podium positions during the 2023-2024 snowboarding season as well, marking her as one of the world’s best ever. Back in January, she even placed second in a snowboarding event at St Moritz. Sadly, she won’t get to attend the 2025 FIS Snowboard World Championships that she was gearing up for in March.
