Having to spend ages scrubbing at an oven door to remove any brown or charred stains can be tiresome, but there is a simple way to get it clean again with the right items.
Oven doors are often tough to clean as food, oils and grease can drip onto the glass, and if not wiped away become baked onto the surface due to exposure to heat.
Grease stains are also stubborn as they become sticky and hard due to the high temperatures in the oven, but also do not mix well with water which makes them incredibly tricky to remove.
However, Dominika, a mum who goes by Washy Wash Cleantok on Instagram, has found a simple yet very effective way to break down tough oven stains and all you need is two natural items.
Dominika said: “Clean your oven with just orange. First, sprinkle soda crystals all over [the] oven door, then squeeze orange all over it and scrub down.”

Why does this natural cleaner work to clean the oven?
It may sound strange but oranges contain natural oil called limonene which is a powerful degreaser that can break down oil stains.
The grease and burned food found on oven doors is acidic, and soda crystals are highly alkaline which means they dissolve these stains quickly without having to scrub for ages.
It is often suggested online to use baking soda and white vinegar to naturally clean your oven without using commercial cleaners, but this solution is unlikely to work.
Baking soda is mildly alkaline, which means it could in theory clean an oven but will not be as effective as soda crystals and will require a lot of scrubbing.
White vinegar has antibacterial properties which can help remove lots of stains in the home, but is acidic so will not work to break down grease stains.
Using soda crystals and oranges is cheap and eco-friendly while also being a successful way to clean oven glass without having to use harsh chemicals near where you cook your food.

How to clean an oven door naturally
All you need to do is pour a generous amount of soda crystals onto your oven door.
Slice an orange in half and use it to work the soda crystals into the oven glass. Make sure to squeeze the orange to get lots of juice onto the surface.
Next, leave the oven door alone and wait 10 minutes to get the cleaning solutions time to break down the greasy grime.
Once the time is up, use a clean cloth or paper towels to gently wipe the oven door, and the stains should easily come away.
Then simply rinse the oven door with water and dry with a clean cloth to remove the soda crystal and orange solution.
