Paulina Porizkova’s Vulnerable Video Discusses Her Recent Weight Gain: ‘My New Softness Feels Soothing'

Paulina Porizkova is sharing another bout of wisdom amid her menopause journey, one that talks about surprise weight gain.

On Jan 7, Porizkova posted a video to her Instagram, detailing her journey for accepting her body after weight gain amid menopause. She started the caption by saying, “I gained about 15lb after my bilateral hip replacement in early 2024. The funny thing is, I was so happy with my life ; the end of chronic pain, building a life with my love, traveling with friends and working on new writing projects – that I had no idea I had gained all this weight until I went to Paris for my first modeling job of the year. Which was in September. One day back at my old job, and I was excruciatingly aware of every extra pound. I didn’t fit the clothes. Which of course WAS and IS my job. To fit the clothes!”

She then talked about how this affected her mental health when she went back to modeling, saying, “I squeezed into the largest of the items, leaving seams open, waistbands unbuttoned, and prayed that my ability to fake it was still in place. I managed to get through the assignments, but suddenly – I felt awful about myself. I had to lose some weight so I could fit into the clothing my job requires of me. And this is where I hit the post menopause bump.”

“Didn’t matter how little I ate, the weight didn’t fluctuate. Alright- time to add weight lifting to the schedule. And the protein. And ditch the desserts. Two months later, I’m exactly the same weight. My butt feels firmer, but otherwise- most of my clothing is too small, a good indication I haven’t shrunk,” she added.

She ended the heartfelt caption by saying, “And yet, I don’t exactly mind this new, fuller body. Compared to a year ago when I was 15 lbs less but in constant pain, my new softness feels soothing. And thanks to my love @sjeffgreenstein my body also feels at the height of its sexiness, desirability and ok, I’ll say it – prowess. So, really , my only problems are no jobs and nothing to wear. 🤪 #betweenjloandbettywhite #richwhitewomenproblems #menopause #bilateralhipreplacements photos by the usual suspect @sjeffgreenstein.”

In the video itself, we see Porizkova rocking different swimsuits while on the Secret Lagoon in Iceland, Jamaica, and the Blue Lagoon in Iceland. As she shows off her gorgeous gray hair and physique, it just shows how powerful and confident she is, showing a more vulnerable side to her changing body. Our bodies change so much in our lifetime, and it’s wonderful to see Porizkova not only talking about the ups and downs of it, but how one’s changing body can be empowering.

We always love Porizkova’s words of wisdom, but this one may be our favorite to date.

Now, this is not the first, nor will it be the last, time Porizkova has reminded people that life does get better with age; and how it’s important to stay in shape to be able to do so many things.

“Staying in shape takes much more time and effort, but it allows me to fully inhabit this shell I was given at birth, something I took for granted most of my life. But not anymore. Now it’s a deliberate decision to allow it to work as best as it can, being grateful for its ability to move me through the world to keep harvesting the beauty of it all. Pain included,” she told SheKnows in April 2023.
