Get ready for the “Kornacki Cam.”
Steve Kornacki, the veteran NBC News and MSNBC national political correspondent, will get his own video feed on election night, part of Peacock‘s plan to bring the multiview experience that it debuted during the Paris Olympics earlier this year to other live events.
Peacock will debut a three-feed version of multiview on election night, anchored by a main feed of NBC News Now, which will be led by Lester Holt and Savannah Guthrie; as well as the Kornacki Cam, which will see Kornacki at the big board analyzing the polling numbers as they come in through the night; and a decision desk feed, which will focus on electoral results and the balance of power.
“Peacock continues to define the live streaming experience for audiences,” said Kelly Campbell, president of Peacock and direct-to-donsumer for NBCUniversal. “By expanding our popular Multiview feature to election night, we’re coupling the incredible expertise of NBC News with Peacock’s leading technology to curate a customer-first way to watch election coverage.”
Kornacki, of course, holds court at his interactive board all election night, breaking down exit polls and voting returns for viewers. The Kornacki Cam will give fans even more opportunity to get his analysis.
Peacock expects to start the multiview at around 6 p.m. ET on election night, continuing until about 2 a.m. As with the Paris Olympics multiview experience, users will be able to watch the live video feeds all at the same time, with the ability to switch the audio or dive into one feed whenever they choose.
Multiview made its debut during NBCU’s coverage of the 2024 Paris Olympics, and the company says more than a quarter of Olympics viewers on Peacock used the feature.
Multiview has become table stakes in the streaming sports space, letting users watch multiple feeds at the same time. However, Peacock is treading new ground by bringing it to political coverage.
The company also said that it will bring the multiview to the Premier League on Peacock starting Dec. 4, marking the second major sports event for the feature. It will also add new functionality that puts live events in the spotlight rail in the app (they call it “Live in Browse”), making it easier for users to jump right in to live events.
