Last year Peter Andre told of his mum Thea's health battle, announcing sadly that she had been diagnosed with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. And he told readers of his column earlier this year: "Although I thank God my parents are still here, I am seeing the rapid decline, especially in Mum. I find that part hard to deal with. Like most people, l'm so close to my parents that it is really difficult to come to terms with."
This week in his weekly column for OK!, the doting son opens up about an upcoming emotional reunion with his mother. “I am going to Australia very, very soon to see my mum and dad,” he says. “I’m going with my brother Michael, just the two of us and we’re going to spend some real quality time with my mum, dad and sister. I need to spend time with my mum, which is going to be emotional. When it comes to her health, we just have to hope and pray that she’s doing OK. It will mean so much to have this time with her.”
Pete’s mum, 87, lives in Australia with his dad Savvas amid her declining health and just a few months ago, he marked their 69th anniversary and paid tribute to them as he said it is “really tough to see your parents get old or sick.”
In January 2023, he jetted off to Australia to visit his mum and dad with Emily, and Pete's kids with Katie Price, Junior, 18 and Princess, 16, went along for the trip. Being with his parents "meant the world " to him and he revealed how it was 'cruel' to watch the conditions take hold.
After sharing snaps from his vacation on Instagram, Pete answered a few supportive comments posted by fans. He said: "We worry every single day as it takes hold. I will cherish every moment I have." In another reply, Pete explained: "It's so cruel seeing it take hold."
In December, after announcing he and Emily are expecting a baby, the singer explained he decided to keep the news from his mum. He said that his mum's health battles have been "very difficult" in recent years and he decided to keep his happy news a secret in case things went wrong in Emily's pregnancy.
Speaking to OK!, he said: "I didn't want to risk later having to break bad news. Heaven forbid if something went wrong, it would have really hurt my mama. She's always been so strong as a person, so to all of a sudden see her not so strong is hard. But she's so thrilled and asks every day about the bump."
