The latest update to Pixel Screenshots rolled out this week, and the Gboard recall feature is now rolling out.
On the Pixel 9 series, Pixel Screenshots 0.24.433.15 rolled out on Monday. As of Wednesday morning, we’re now seeing a prompt at the top of the app to “Get suggestions in Gboard: See movie, music, product, and other text suggestions from your screenshots when searching in relevant apps.”
After enabling, taking a screenshot that includes a movie, song/album, or product will have Pixel Screenshots remember that information when you open a relevant app.
If somebody messaged me a Now Playing screen (e.g. “check this out”) and I saved it to Pixel Screenshots, opening YouTube Music or Spotify gives me a Gboard autofill suggestion for the name of that song. This feature is referred to by Google as “proactive recall.”
In another example, I took a screenshot of the Pixel 9 Pro’s Google Store listing. When I open the Amazon Shopping app and go to search, I get “Google Pixel 9 Pro” as an auto-complete option. There’s also “LCD Soundsystem merchandise” from an earlier test.
This only works in relevant Android apps, and not the equivalent websites.
You can disable “Show suggestions from your screenshots in other apps” if you don’t want this on-device feature.
Version 0.24.433.15 also introduces tweaks to the image viewer that adds more search terms, and auto-filters that categorize your screenshots. The latter takes an overnight charge before appearing, with the app presumably processing your captures again. There’s also Add to Google Wallet integration when screenshotting a pass and Circle to Search to quickly “Save” just a part of your screen.
Meanwhile, Gboard this week also picked up the Pixel Studio Stickers pack and the ability to browse Emoji Kitchen combinations.
