Pokémon TCG Pocket officially releases on the Google Play Store

After a long wait since being announced at the Pokémon World Championships back in August, the Pokémon TCG Pocket is now officially available to download from the Google Play Store.

Available for iOS and Android, the Pokémon TCG Pocket game is a new streamlined mobile version of the immensely popular Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) designed to make playing on the go less time-consuming than the regular TCG Live game – which offers a more in-depth experience.

Pre-registration was opened shortly after Pokémon TCG Pocket was announced in August, but it is now available to download to your Android devices. The gameplay mimics real life with in-game booster packs that you can open to build a deck and get playing. Every player can open two packs daily for free, while extra packs or a premium battle pass can be purchased to unlock more digital assets.

From the get-go the game works by teaching you the ropes of this streamlined version of the tabletop card game. You will also need to reach Level 3 before you’re able to unlock the “Battling” mode. Once unlocked, you can battle against CPU opponents or take on other players using the “Versus” mode. The Pokémon Company has a detailed guide on how to get started playing the TCG Pocket.

The initial Pokémon TCG Pocket release weighs in at around 190MB on Android, but a substantial 300MB update required as soon as you launch the game. With that in mind, it’s worth ensuring you have plenty of storage available, as we’re sure app caches could balloon as you build your collection.

To get started, you can download right now from the Google Play Store.
