The film is set to be a 'major blow' for the couple, a royal expert says

A new documentary about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry could damage their reputation, a royal expert tells The Mirror.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are the focus of a new film, titled Harry - The Lost Prince, which is scheduled to air on Germany's ZDF network tonight. The documentary, produced by award-winning filmmaker Ulrike Grunewald, promises to reveal fresh revelations about the couple's lives in the US after they left the Royal Family in 2020.

It hears from a veteran soldier, who was formerly an acquaintance of Harry, as he blasts the Duke for 'whinging' about his family disputes and publicising 'little fisticuffs' with his brother, Prince William. One of the couple's Montecito neighbours also features talking about Meghan not being "an asset" to the local community.

The royal commentator highlights how Harry and Meghan have dropped in popularity since 2020

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror about the impact of the documentary on the Sussexes, royal commentator Duncan Larcombe said it will be a "major blow" to the couple, despite it not airing in the States. Mr Larcombe said: "I think any documentary that continues the criticism of Harry and Meghan's modus operandi is going to be damaging."

He went on: "It's in Germany so it's probably not going to make a big storm over in the US. But it's still a major blow for a couple who have seen their popularity plummet like a stone falling in a well since they left the UK."

According to research conducted by Statista, Harry has steadily become less popular among the British public since he quit life as a working royal in early 2020. In 2019, the Duke was liked by 71 percent of people, but the latest data from last August showed that now, only 30 percent hold a favourable opinion of him.

Meanwhile, a recent YouGov poll revealed that Meghan has dropped down the popularity rankings and is now 17th on the list of the most popular Royal Family members, liked by 23 percent of Brits - falling behind little-known royal Princess Alexandra, The Honourable Lady Ogilvy, who is liked by 25 percent of Brits.

The new documentary comes as Meghan and Harry's professional distance has increased since they embarked on a joint tour of Colombia in the summer. Sources close to the couple say it shows their new "twin-track approach" with Harry focusing on his charity endeavours and Meghan on her entrepreneurial projects and business.

It is a marked difference from just two years ago when Meghan once likened herself and her husband to salt and pepper as they always "move together". Now, Meghan is gearing up to launch her brand American Rivieria Orchard next year, while Harry's Invictus Games will take place in February in Vancouver and Whistler in Canada.

Their solo public appearances are set to continue this week. Meghan is expected to appear at a glitzy Hollywood party honouring her celeb pal Tyler Perry tomorrow (December 4), meanwhile, thousands of miles away in New York, Harry will be at The New York Times DealBook Conference.
