Prince Harry Puts Meghan Markle Divorce Rumors to Rest and Jokes ‘We’ve Divorced Maybe 10, 12 Times’

Prince Harry broke his silence about the divorce rumors that have been swirling about himself and wife Meghan Markle. The royal even managed to joke about the whispers of trouble in paradise.

“Apparently we’ve bought or moved house 10, 12 times,” Harry, 40, told the crowd during an appearance at the New York Times DealBook Summit in New York City on Wednesday, December 4. “We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well. So it’s just like, what?”

Harry and Meghan, 43, have recently been making separate appearances at different events which has only fueled speculation that they may have hit a rough patch in their marriage.

“I Google Newsed you, and there were people fascinated by everything you’re doing, all the time. They’re fascinated that Meghan is in California right now and you’re here. ‘Why are you making, doing independent events? Why aren’t you doing them together?’” Andrew Ross Sorkin, who interviewed Harry for the panel, asked.

The dad of two joked that it was because “[Andrew] invited [him,] of course.”

Andrew, 47, continued, “True. Is that normal for you? The second there’s an article — she’s in California, you’re in New York — they say, ‘Well, what is happening with these two, right?’ Is that a good thing for you, in a way, that there’s so much interest in you?”

Harry explained that it was “not a good thing.”

He continued, “It’s hard to keep up with, but that’s why you just sort of ignore it. The people I feel most sorry about are the trolls. Their hopes are just built and built, and it’s like, ‘Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,’ and then it doesn’t happen. So I feel sorry for them. Genuinely, I do.”

Harry also touched on how the press has always been present in his life and how it affected his childhood.

“I’ve had a lived experience since I was a kid. I’ve seen stories written about myself that aren’t exactly based on reality. I’ve seen stories about members of my family, friends, strangers, all sorts of people,” Harry told Andrew. “And I think when you grow up within that environment, you do find yourself questioning the validity of the information but also what other people are thinking of that as well, and how dangerous it can be over the course of time.”

The Duke and Duchess have been at the center of a rift involving the rest of the royal family, including Harry’s older brother, Prince William, for several years. In August, sources exclusively told In Touch that King Charles wasn’t happy with Meghan and Harry going on unofficial royal tours, despite stepping down from their senior royal duties.

“It’s no secret Prince William and King Charles take issue with them using their titles to advance their personal brand. But the Duke and Duchess are defiant and clearly don’t care what anyone thinks,” the source revealed.

The insider continued, “It’s no secret all the criticism is upsetting for them, but clearly, they’re not letting it stop them from forging ahead. It’s well documented that the royals do not want them doing these unofficial tours. While that might have given them pause, it now seems they’re handling the backlash by acting more confident and brazen than ever.”
