Prince Harry's UK return could be down to one royal - but he'll 'look like an idiot'

4 hours ago 2

Prince Harry is gearing up for a festive period in the USA with Meghan Markle and their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, marking his fifth Christmas stateside.

The Duke of Sussex, who turned 40 this year, stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and has rarely been seen on British soil since. The Duchess, 43, last visited Britain for the Queen's funeral in 2022.

With the ongoing family rift, a holiday celebration on UK turf appears increasingly unlikely for the couple. Yet Harry, despite professing contentment in his American life, is rumoured to be considering a UK base reports the Scottish Daily Express.

An old friend believes it might be an unexpected royal who facilitates more time spent in his homeland. However, Tommy Severn, a close confidant who knows the royal brothers through polo, cautions that a UK return could leave Harry looking like an "idiot".

Severn, whose family has ties with both Harry and Prince William, reveals the latter has felt deeply wounded by Harry's public criticisms and the revelations in his book Spare.

Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge meet staff and pupils from Holy Trinity Church of England First School as part of their working visits across the UK ahead of the Christmas holidays on December 7, 2020 in Berwick-Upon-Tweed, United Kingdom.

Prince William has had tension with his brother for a long time now

Although King Charles is eager to bond with his grandchildren, five-year-old Archie and three-year-old Lilibet, William appears less inclined to heal the divide. Yet, Severn speculates it's William who holds the key to Harry's potential homecoming, as reported by the Daily Mail.

He stated: "I think Harry's cut ties so if he came back now, he'd look like an idiot. William might help him because they were close - that's the brothers bond."

Severn also took a swipe at Harry's newest Netflix production. The show entitled Polo has failed to win favour with viewers and critics alike, and Severn believes the lack of royal sparkle is to blame, considering Harry and Meghan's fleeting appearances.

He commented: "It seemed to be more about Timmy and Tim Dutta than the Prince, who doesn't appear until near the end."
