The New York Yankees are deep into the Juan Soto sweepstakes right now. They're so invested in Soto that all the other free agents aren't gaining very much attention at all.
This includes their free agent second baseman, Gleyber Torres, who Spotrac projects to sign a three-year, $20 million contract this winter. New York has been connected to a few different Torres replacements, including the idea of adding a third baseman and moving Jazz Chisholm Jr. over to second base.
But if the Yankees elect to not to re-sign Torres, who will?
Nick Villano of FanSided recently projected Torres to leave the Yankees. Villano suggests Torres will sign with the San Francisco Giants as a part of their plan to dethrone the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West.
"The Giants are looking to make moves this offseason, and Torres will be one of them. They have a need at second base, and they could sorely use more offensive help in that division," Villano wrote. "Torres might not be their biggest move, but it is one that gets them closer to contention, even with the Dodgers and (San Diego) Padres in the division."
Torres to the Giants makes sense, but I don't imagine the Yankees let him walk out the door very easily, especially at less than $10 million a year. I'd imagine Torres more in the $15 million average annual value range. If the Giants are willing to outbid the Bronx Bombers for their infielder, Torres could be headed to the Bay Area.
