Production felt they needed to shake the Real Housewives of Potomac up after the series lost some significant players. Both Candiace Dillard Bassett and Robyn Dixon were not going to be returning for Season 9. For years, these two ladies stirred the pot and filled out the group of friends. But with the premiere, fans were introduced to Stacey Rusch. As of now, fans don’t know what to make of her except that she might be too nice for the reality TV world she has just entered.
Stacey Rusch is sensitive to her ‘friends’ moral code
In the newest episode, Stacey opens up a bit more about her friend/boyfriend TJ. But when she got to the part about him not having sex until he found his wife, her costars, especially Gizelle Bryant, found it hard to stifle her laugh. It’s no one’s business about why or why not someone will have sex. But I couldn’t help but feel a bit embarrassed for Stacey, who noted there are other things to do, like “the gym or go to the zoo.” Not the zoo, girl! She laughed along on the Sprinter van, but it was obvious the newbie felt uncomfortable.
Stacey’s newfound love might be too pure for the scene of the Real Housewives of Potomac. The newbie shared, “He’s my best friend. He is one of the best people I’ve ever met in my life. And I’m so happy to have someone that really loves me and really supports me. And for me, that is enough. That’s more than enough, quite frankly.” But it wasn’t enough for her new friends, who quickly Googled his iMDB and mocked his “extra” work.
Stacey Rusch marches to the beat of her own drum
This week’s episode showed the women getting down poolside as they twerked their way into Wendy Osefo’s 40th birthday. However, Stacey at the time noted, “I don’t know how to twerk!” Instead, she busted out a version of the robot, leaving Real Housewives of Potomac viewers stunned. The ladies noted, “You need to unstiff yourself, Stacey,” but the mother of one just kept having a grand old time doing the twist. Bless Stacey, who didn’t seem to notice that Mia Thornton and the others were mocking her moves.
Fans have been undecided if Stacey has been a bit boring, but her interpretive dance did make us giggle. She also couldn’t hold back her joy as she moved to the music in her head. Stacey noted in her confessional, “I don’t drop it like it’s hot, shake that thing. I just move in the way the music tells me. I can get down.” However, I think if the ladies were out in public on the dance floor, they’d slowly pull away from Stacey. The newbie’s interactions still make me think she is too innocent for the cameras.
Stacey Rusch is standing by Karen Huger
The former QVC presenter has been a ride-or-die ally for Karen Huger. While the ladies were enjoying a weekend away in Charlotte, Stacey learned of the charges against her friend. Fans of the Real Housewives of Potomac are used to seeing the messy conversations play out, but Stacey wasn’t. During a Watch What Happens Live interview, she shared, “Mia and Jacqueline said this in a conversation they had with Karen, and so that’s why I immediately brought it to her. If she talked about going to rehab; I have to ask her about it. So I was genuinely concerned.”
There is no room for genuine concern on a reality TV show. Stacey’s kind-hearted ways might eventually get her burned. Even though she is used to having to be up bright and early for her anchoring days, this type of TV is a whole new ballpark. As Stacey still gets used to the idea of throwing women under the bus, she will have to weigh her morals up against a spot on TV. This latest episode showed her opening up a little more, and dare I say, she had me laughing. I just hope her sweet, innocent approach doesn’t get run over by the bulldozer that can be an OG Real Housewives star.
Real Housewives of Potomac is streaming on Peacock.
