X Factor icon Rebecca Ferguson has confirmed she is in talks to compete at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 - but UK fans might be shocked to learn who she has been asked to sing for.

The 38-year-old singer found fame as a season seven contestant on The X Factor in 2010 - but it seems she has an even bigger singing competition on her mind. Rebecca has enjoyed chart success since she burst into the spotlight a decade and a half ago, with four top 10 albums and with hit singles including Nothing's Real but Love and I Hope.

Now the Liverpudlian star has hinted she could take to the stage in Basel, Switzerland, in May this year as a contestant in the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest. However, she has revealed it is likely she will compete on behalf of another country, instead of the UK.

She made the surprise confession when she was asked: Are you representing the UK at Eurovision?" by a fan during a Q&A session on TikTok. She replied: "Well, I’ve got something to tell you… Do you know what? No one’s messaged me… and I… no one’s messaged me to do it, erm, but what’s really interesting is I’ve had other offers from other countries to do Eurovision. And what they’ve said is, ‘You can’t do it on your own, but you can do it as a duet.’"

Admitting she is torn over when to do, Rebecca continued: "So, it’s a weird one for me because I’ve been offered Eurovision by other countries to sing with their artist. But then I’m patriotic to me own country. But then at the same time, I’m like, ‘Well, me own country hasn’t asked me.’"

But she then added: "So, yeah… I’ve had offers to do Eurovision, but not for the UK. Which is sad if I end up doing it with another country." Her response sparked a frenzy of excitement from fans - with one declaring: “That’s mad regarding Eurovision!” And another wrote: “I’ll sing it with you, whatever it is.”

Other music icons have battled to take part in Eurovision despite otherwise not being eligible to take part. American rap star Flo Rider surprised fans in 2021 when he doubled up with San Marino's 2021 Eurovision entrant Senhit for their song, Adrenalina. And with the show returning to Switzerland in 2025, music fans will recall that Celine Dion won the show for the country in 1988 despite being from Canada.

Rebecca's confession has started something of a campaign among UK fans to get her to represent the nation at the upcoming contest. Many have taken to X to demand that the star be given the chance to sing for the UK - and hopefully win the crown from her European rivals.

One fan on X demanded: "@BBC @BBCWorld - are we seeing this fam?" Another typed: "I'd scream, I loved her sm back in 2012." And another fan wrote: "She has a great voice , could be an interesting choice #Eurovision."

The 2025 Eurovision Song Contest is due to take place at the St. Jakobshalle arena in Basel, Switzerland, in May 2025. The grand finale of the contest will take place on Saturday 17 May.
