Red Sox, Tigers Favored In $200 Million Sweepstakes For Postseason Legend

The Alex Bregman sweepstakes will likely eclipse $180 million in free agency while having the potential to end over $200 million when the third baseman signs his name on the dotted line.

The incumbent Houston Astros have seemingly withdrawn their name from the sweepstakes after acquiring Isaac Paredes and Christian Walker to play third base and first base, respectively. Where does that leave Bregman's market?

Jon Heyman of the New York Post recently linked Bregman to two American League contenders in free agency. Neither should come as a surprise at this point in time.

"The (Detroit) Tigers, with his old Astros manager A.J. Hinch, and (Boston) Red Sox, with his old Astros coach Alex Cora, have often been linked to this terrific all-around third baseman with a big postseason resume," Heyman wrote.

The Tigers and Red Sox are likely the two teams this free agency will come down to. The New York Yankees have continued to be mentioned as suitors, but it's seemingly unlikely they spend another $200 million to bring an additional star to the Bronx.

The Tigers need to add offense in an attempt to gain the fanbase's trust back after a horrendous handling of the 2024 roster. Detroit is young and talented. Bregman would be a huge veteran presence in the clubhouse while providing a great bat in the lineup.

The Red Sox have reportedly flirted with the idea of trading Triston Casas and moving Rafael Devers to first base. If they did this, signing Bregman to a massive deal would give them the third baseman they need to win.
