Redman has recently opened up about life-changing journey with celibacy. According to the iconic MC, for the past “two-and-a-half years,” he has fasted from sex and smoking — something he declares has been “the best thing [he] could have done.”

In a candid interview with Ambrosia For Heads, Redman explained that the decision stemmed from a challenging phase in his life, including a breakup and a daunting seven-year divorce. “My girl and I broke up maybe three, four years ago. I was going through such a sh*t divorce that played a role in why it took so long to drop Muddy Waters [Too]. I had so much on my plate,” he shared.

Determined to regain clarity and control, Redman embarked on a period of solitude. “I actually fasted for two and a half years—no f**king, no smoking. It was the best thing I could have done in my life,” he expressed. “It cleared out so much distraction. My reception is much clearer now. Having no sex is nothing to me now because it was all feeding the flesh.”

The journey, however, didn’t come without its challenges. “Believe me, I wanted to. I was fighting it, I was sweating,” he admitted. “I was in my house going crazy ’cause I live alone. I was constantly talking to myself—me and God, just back and forth. But I made it, and it was the best thing I could have done.”

The “I’ll Bee Dat” spitter also credited the experience with helping him better understand himself and his priorities. “Once I did that, I was able to control how I moved, what I like, what is not good for me,” he explained, acknowledging the mental and emotional benefits of fasting.

The Newark, NJ native isn’t the only artist that has been vocal about embracing celibacy for personal growth. Fellow rapper GloRilla attempted a 90-day celibacy challenge in early 2024 but humorously admitted struggling just nine days in. “I’m on da 9th day & my vision blurry af !!!!! Send help,” she shared on social media.

Additionally, R&B crooner Omarion also been very open about his three-year celibacy.

During an appearance on the Know Thyself podcast in August 2024, O shared: “I kinda took it on as a challenge. When I decided to become celibate, it was because I was really just searching for something more for myself. At the time, I was practicing Christianity… it allowed me to step out of this world and reflect.”
