What To Know

In a press release, Walmart said that they were "excited to announce a comprehensive brand refresh that reflects its evolution as a people-led, tech-powered omnichannel retailer."

The changes, which the company described as an "updated brand identity," which would "better represent who Walmart is today," feature a thicker font, deeper blue background and a brighter yellow spark icon.

Social media users were quick to respond to the changes.

In a post on X which has been viewed over 100,000 times at the time of writing, one user posted a side by side of the logos, writing "Walmart just unveiled their new logo. It looks the f****** same." Another user wrote: "I can't believe someone got paid for this."

A different person wrote: "Dear Walmart, The amount of time and effort you put into this dramatic rebranding of your logo is admirable. This drastic change is unlikely to go unnoticed. Kudos for the thought and artistry involved in such a dramatic and bold change. It's incredible, really. Such a powerful and brave move."

Other users made memes about the logo change, with one posting: "Did Walmart release a new logo or a vision test?"

Another wrote: "A lot of people are hating on the Walmart logo redesign, but if you've ever been a third grade girl, you can tell that the new logo is completely different — the old one is a sun, and the new one is a flower. 😁"

But some users posted that they were fans of the new logo.

"I kinda like the new Walmart logo," one wrote, while another said: "Most people think they need a drastic logo redesign. This is actually what they need a logo tweak and maybe an updated brand and style guide."

What People Are Saying

William White, Walmart senior vice president and chief marketing officer said in a press release: "While the look and feel of our brand is more contemporary, our refreshed brand identity reflects Walmart's enduring commitment to both Sam's principles and serving our customers however they need us. As our customers evolve, we will too. Our Walmart will always be their Walmart, and our brand will always be a testament to how we innovate and change alongside them."

What's Next

Walmart will apply the refreshed visuals from this month, and will continue to redesign their stores over time.
