2024 was undoubtedly the year of Taylor Swift, with the singer's record-breaking Eras Tour heading Down Under to entertain 624,000 fans across her seven Australian shows in February.

Wilkins reflected on Australia's Swift-mania, which can only be described as pandemonium.

"Fans scrambled to buy tickets and crowds turned out to catch a glimpse of the superstar and her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs footballer Travis Kelce," he said.

It was also a massive year for the "tiny and mighty" Sabrina Carpenter, who opened the Aussie Eras Tour and whose songs Espresso and Taste were stuck in everyone's heads.

"Coldplay did pretty much the same business as Taylor, with their incredible Music of the Spheres stadium shows, and it was a big year for Aussie rock legends Cold Chisel, who celebrated the big 5-0 with their sold-out anniversary tour," Wilkins said.

"In July, Celine Dion stunned the world with an unforgettable performance, closing the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, her first since she took a break amid her ongoing health battle with Stiff-person Syndrome."

2024 was also a big year for celebrity breakups.

Australian actress Isla Fisher and British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen announced their split after more than 20 years together.

"The breakup [was] announced on social media, with the pair saying, 'After a long tennis match lasting over 20 years, we're finally putting our rackets down'," Dickie shared.

Following months of speculation, the breakup of 'Bennifer' also broke the internet when Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from her husband of two years, Ben Affleck, on their wedding anniversary.

Come September, the tides changed and love was in the air, with Aussie actress Rebel Wilson marrying her partner Ramona Agruma in Sardinia, Italy.

The following month we received the heartwarming news Margot Robbie had welcomed her first child, a baby boy, with her husband Tom Ackerley.

Australia was in for more exciting baby news when soccer power couple Sam Kerr and her fiancé Kristie Mewis announced they were also expecting their first child.

But the year also brought some sad news.

"On October 16th, the world stopped with the news that former One Direction band member Liam Payne had died in Argentina, the 31-year-old falling from a hotel balcony in the capital, Buenos Aires," Wilkins said.

"Sadly, in 2024, we lost more of those we loved and admired, including Shannen Doherty, John Blackman, Kris Kristofferson, Maggie Smith, Maggie Tabberer, Bob Newhart, Gena Rowlands, and Phil Donahue."

As the year came to a close, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo dominated the entertainment scene after starring in part one of the film adaptation of Broadway's Wicked

Wilkins concluded, "What a year it's been – all the best for 2025."
