Rick Stein's restaurants are turning back the clock, offering a retro menu with prices from 1975.

Rick Stein says Britain's top dishes aren't 'British at all'

Rick Stein is set to roll back prices to 1975 levels in celebration of the 50th anniversary of his restaurants. The Rick Stein group will revert to its original pricing structure of nearly 50 years ago, with dishes starting from as little as 30p.

The incredible “vintage and retro menu” will offer a taste of the seventies, with four starters, four mains, and four desserts reflecting the era's culinary style.

Highlights of the limited-time menu include shellfish soup for 50p, grilled lobster for £2.80, and a seafood thermidor for just £2.20.

Other dishes include scallop stew with turbot and basil cream for 65p, Cornish bouillabaisse for £2.60, and treacle tart for a mere 30p.

This nostalgic offering will only be available for a limited number of lunch bookings across five locations: Barnes, Winchester, Marlborough, Sandbanks, and Stein’s original Seafood Restaurant in Padstow.

Demand is expected to be high, with booking lines opening at 10am on January 24. As the group puts it, "it’s fastest finger first" for this exclusive offer.

In addition to the retro menu, the group has launched a community-focused initiative, giving diners the chance to nominate a friend or family member to enjoy the special lunch.

On the milestone, Rick, 78, said: “Reflecting on the past 50 years, we’re so grateful to everyone who has been part of this incredible journey — from our loyal customers, talented team, and wonderful suppliers. We look forward to all the celebrations this year!”

Co-founder Jill Stein, OBE, added, “Little did Rick and I imagine when we opened our doors in 1975 that we would still be here 50 years later, celebrating half a century of the iconic Seafood Restaurant.”

The anniversary menu will be available at the selected restaurants from Thursday, February 6, to Sunday, February 9. For more details, visit rickstein.com.

The renowned TV chef is well known for his culinary empire, which includes a string of successful restaurants, shops, and hotels across the UK and abroad.

Trips to Cornwall as a child inspired him to start his business empire and opened a number of businesses across Cornwall, Winchester, Sandbanks and Barnes in London as well as Rick Stein at Bannisters locations in Mollymook and Port Stephens, Australia.

Rick who celebrated his 78th birthday on January 4, shows no signs of slowing down in his career. It comes as he is preparing to celebrate 50 years in the hospitality business next year.

Speaking to Radio Times, he shared that he feels "no need to retire," adding, "I tend to try and keep away from any meaningful decisions. I'm now just really involved in quality control and new recipes."

He also detailed how he likes to stay young and energised, telling the publication: "I swim virtually every day and I walk quite a lot."

Excitingly, he also plans to expand his restaurant business, with hopes of opening the company's first central London branch.
