Ricky Gervais has taken to social media to pay tribute to one of his co-stars on hit Netflix show After Life.

Portraying Brandy throughout all three seasons was the talented German Shepherd, Vislor Antilly. The four-legged star recently passed away, with Gervais sharing fond memories with the dog while on set. He shared a message on X, alongside a picture of them together. He wrote the message: "Sad News. 'Anti', who played 'Brandy' in AfterLife, has died. She was 13 and a very good girl."

Antilly's human family also runs an Instagram account in her honour, named Antilly the Wonder Hound, where Ricky reposted their touching farewell: "Vislor Antilly, After Life's Brandy, has sadly passed away. We already miss her terribly. Sleep well xxx". Fans and celebs alike have been flooding the comments with condolences.

Ex-Corrie star Kym Marsh sent crying emojis, while another commented: "Sorry for your loss. Beautiful dog." A third said: "Her character was integral to Tony's survival as well as his 'reconnecting' to life that exists on the far side of grieving. Hopelessness is magnified by loneliness. Condolences to her family and coworkers."

A fourth noted: "I'm sorry. The problem with dogs is they never live long enough." A fifth expressed: "Oh noooo. Poor Anti. What a good good girl she was."

Gervais previously said the success of After Life proves no topic should be off limits in comedy. The show is about a man struggling to cope with grief so badly that he feels suicidal – but it has had millions of us laughing.

He told the Daily Star: "When I first came up with the idea, even I worried about it. I had it in my head but I thought, ‘What if it doesn’t work out how I imagine it?’

“It starts with a woman who has died of cancer and then the man is suicidal. That’s not Terry And June, is it?

“But in stand-up comedy, we talk about the worst things in the world and make them funny. So why can’t we do it in TV?"
