Ricky Gervais reveals outrageous jokes he would make if hosting 2025 Golden Globes

1 day ago 6

It’s been four years since Ricky Gervais last hosted the Golden Globes, during which he left the star-studded audience cringing and wincing with his cancellable gags.

The room filled with uncomfortable laughter as the controversial comic referenced Jeffrey Epstein, joked about actors taking drugs, and took aim at Leonardo DiCaprio for dating women in their twenties.

Now, as we gear up for the 2025 ceremony, Gervais, 63, has revealed what jokes he would be making if he were to return to host the prestigious gig for a sixth time.

Spoiler alert: he had no intention of holding back.

Taking to X, he wrote to his 14.9million followers: ‘Sat in the bath wondering about what I would say if I were hosting The Golden Globes on Sunday. It’s been a pretty good year for material.’

‘Hello, and welcome to the 82nd Golden Globe awards,’ he continued, acting out his monologue.

‘What a year it’s been. Hundreds of entertainers jumped at the chance to go to The Vatican to meet The Pope. Many from Hollywood. Obviously they weren’t content with only being part of the 2nd biggest pedo ring in the world…’

Gervais continued: ‘Justin Timberlake was convicted of [drunk driving]. If he’d have gone to jail he’d have heard the words “Sexy Back” a lot more often.’

His roast wouldn’t have ended there, as Gervais would’ve also mentioned Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, who is currently behind bars on charges of racketeering and sex trafficking.

‘Kevin Hart said that being at one of Diddy’s parties was uncomfortable, as he wouldn’t leave him alone. Eventually he had to shout “Imma Midget, not a child”,’ Gervais wrote.

Gervais has gone viral on several occasions for his Golden Globes opening monologues.

The After Life creator may not have hosted the ceremony in 2024, but he was still the talk of the internet as he took home a trophy.

Gervais won the award for best stand-up performance for his divisive special, which landed him in hot water and prompted viewers to demand several jokes be removed.

The backlash for Armageddon began before the show was even released on Netflix last Christmas, as jokes were made in poor taste, including one about terminally ill children.

A petition later acquired thousands of signatures, demanding that the skit be axed by the streamer, branding Gervais ‘heartless’.

Speaking previously about his involvement in the Golden Globes, Gervais said in 2022 that he asked not to be booked again as a host.

In an interview with LadBible, Gervais – who hosted the awards in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016, and 2020 – was asked whether he would consider returning.

‘The Golden Globes could offer me £10million for 10 minutes work, you know, and I’d be an idiot, I’d be a liar, to say I wouldn’t consider it,’ he began.

‘But at the moment, given I’ve done it five times, it got better and better for me – I enjoyed them all, but it got better – and I’m planning never to do it again.’

He added: ‘I’ve asked them not to ask me because I can be persuaded; that’s true. You know, it’s not a principle.’

The 2025 Golden Globes will be hosted by Nikki Glaser, a 40-year-old American actress and comedian.

Ahead of becoming the first woman to host the Golden Globes, she confessed her ‘concerns’ about being cancelled but admits she’s not constantly stressing over it.

Speaking to The Mirror US, Glaser shared that she has learned from past material that upset crowds: ‘I had to take a look at myself and look at my material and look at the things I maybe have said in the past that I’m ashamed of.

‘[And] I am like, I hope that doesn’t resurface. And I’m just thinking, what was the intent? Was I trying to make people feel bad about who they were? No. Was I trying to offend? No.

‘So I’ll apologise and whether or not people accept my apology is on them. But if I ever did something worth cancelling and someone was that hurt that I said a joke, I mean, I would inform myself about it.’
