Rosemarie DeWitt Says Ron Livingston Had to Hide from ‘Sex and the City’ Fans for Years: ‘Women Would Come Up and Scream at Him’

Ron Livingston can’t walk down the street without “Sex and the City” fans hating him. Or, more precisely, his infamous character Jack Berger.

During Season 5 of the hit series, Livingston’s Berger dates Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie. A struggling novelist, Berger’s mood swings lead to him ending things with Carrie via Post-it, reading, “I’m sorry. I can’t. Don’t hate me.”

Livingston’s real-life wife, fellow actress Rosemarie DeWitt, said during “The Drew Barrymore Show” that she and Livingston couldn’t even walk through New York City without rabid “Sex and the City” fans accosting them.

“Back in the day, when we first started dating, we’d be walking in the West Village, and there’d be those ‘Sex and the City’ tours, and Ron would be like, ‘Go left! Go left!,’” DeWitt said. “We’d have to duck into Magnolia Bakery or something because women would come up and scream at him. They’d be like, ‘You broke up with her on a Post-it!’ You know what I mean?” The “Mad Men” star added, “So he really got a lot of heat for a long time.”

A Man on the Inside stars Ted Danson as Charles, shown here adjusting his black-rimmed glasses in one hand and holding his phone in the other, wearing a checkered sportcoat, looking around the corner of a hallway

DeWitt also joined the “Sex and the City” franchise with revival series “And Just Like That,” playing the ex-wife of Carrie’s enduring flame Aidan (John Corbett). “And Just Like That” will return for Season 3, picking up after Carrie’s third split with Aidan. Corbett is set to reprise his role for Season 3, along with series leads Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis.

The core group is rounded out by Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker, David Eigenberg, Evan Handler, Christopher Jackson, Niall Cunningham, Cathy Ang, Sebastiano Pigazzi, Dolly Wells, and Alexa Swinton, who are all also returning. Season 3 will welcome new cast members Mehcad Brooks (“Law & Order”), Jonathan Cake (“The Affair,” “Desperate Housewives”), Logan Marshall-Green (“Upgrade”), and Rosie O’Donnell in recurring in roles.

Michael Patrick King is the showrunner and executive producer for the revival series. Actresses Parker, Davis, and Nixon all executive produce. The original “Sex and the City” series was created by Darren Star and based on the book of the same name by Candace Bushnell.
