Ryan's Hope star Helen Gallagher has died at the age of 98.
The sad news was reported by Playbill, while New York's Herbert Berghof Studio's Edith Meeks told The Washington Post the late star died on Sunday in hospital in New York City.
Gallagher is believed to have taught singing classes for musical theatre there for years.

"HB Studio is my home, and teaching there has been one of the greatest joys of my life," Gallagher said about working there on the official website. She was also honoured by the school with a Helen Gallagher Studio Theatre.
A friend also confirmed the news, according to The New York Times.
A cause of death has not yet been given.
Gallagher, who hailed from Brooklyn New York, starred as matriarch Maeve Ryan on Ryan's Hope.

She starred on the hit show from 1975 to 1989. The show also starred the likes of Bernard Borrow and Nancy Addison and followed the life of the Ryan family.
Other credits to her name include Law & Order and the show All My Children.
Apart from appearing on the small screen, Gallagher was a Broadway lover and star and appeared in shows including Hazel Flagg, High Button Shoes and Sweet Charity.

Throughout her career, she won prized awards including Daytime Emmys and Tony Awards for both her roles on screen and the stage.

One fan wrote underneath Playbill's post a sweet tribute to the late star.
"Had the honor of studying singing in her private class for years. Hilarious, wonderful, inspiring anecdotes of working with Broadway luminaries between songs. Loved her. May she rest in eternal peace, sipping tea for two in a lovely cottage."
