Sabrina Carpenter issues message to her critics: 'Don't come to my shows'

Sabrina Carpenter has sent a message to the critics making "regressive" comments directed at her and her world tour: "If you can't handle a girl who is confident in her own sexuality, then don't come to my shows."

The Espresso singer, 25, addressed the backlash during an interview with The Sun, pointing out that "female artists have been shamed forever".

"In the noughties, it was Rihanna; in the nineties, it was Britney Spears; in the eighties, it was Madonna – and now it's me."

"It's essentially saying that female performers should not be able to embrace their sexuality in their lyrics, in the way we dress, in the way we perform."

It's not the first time the hitmaker has addressed criticism. 

In an interview with Time, during which Carpenter described performing on stage as "the scariest thing in the world", she discussed commentary surrounding her outfits.

"You'll still get the occasional mother that has a strong opinion on how you should be dressing," she explained. "And to that I just say, don't come to the show and that's OK."

Carpenter was recently nominated for a whopping six Grammy Awards, recognised in the categories for Best Pop Vocal Album, Album Of The Year and Best New Artist.

The hit song Please Please Please was nominated for Song Of The Year, while Espresso is up for Best Pop Solo Performance and Record Of The Year.

In 2023, Carpenter announced that she would support Taylor Swift on her record-breaking Eras Tour through Swift's Latin American, Australian, and Singaporean tour dates.

The singer is currently on her ongoing Short n' Sweet Tour, which began in September 2024, in support of her sixth studio album.

The star's highly anticipated tour will wrap up on April 4, 2025, in Stockholm, Sweden, after completing 53 shows.
