Samsung to Bring Tri-Foldable Smartphone in the Second Half of 2025: Here’s What We Know So Far

Tri-Foldable technology in the smartphone industry is making its way in 2025. To recall, the concept of the tri-foldable smartphone was first introduced by Royole, a Chinese technology company in 2019, but the company went bankrupt. However, there are several companies making their way toward the foldable market, Huawei being the first company to commercially launch the first tri-foldable smartphone, the Mate XT in September 2024.

Talking about Samsung, the company has been working for a long time to bring a foldable smartphone to the market. The tech giant brought the concept of tri-foldable in 2021, making it the company’s broader push towards innovation and foldable displays. The tech giant will unveil its tri-foldable smartphone in the second quarter of 2025. As per new reports coming from Korea, Samsung will release its smartphone in less than 300,000 units.

From what we know so far, the company would bring a different deign to its tri-foldable smartphone than Huawei. To recall, the Huawei Mate XT has the ‘S’ or ‘Z’ folding mechanism that allows the phone to fold in two ways, inward and outward. However, Samsung wants to adopt a ‘G’ form factor folding mechanism that involves the outer screens folding inward. The system involved in foldable smartphones works by having a flexible screen that bends without breaking. This could be an even better idea as the display of the smartphone will be protected when it’s folded.

By bringing the tri-foldable smartphone, the South Korean tech giant is trying to diversify its products rather than releasing a boring and repetitive product portfolio. Chances are the company will not unveil its much-anticipated device globally and the smartphone will only make its way in just one or two Asian markets in 2025, much like the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. Additionally, it is difficult to guess how much Huawei’s Mate XT alternative will cost in South Korea or China and there is still very little is known about the device.

Other reports suggest that the company could launch its upcoming device with a 12.4-inch display, essentially replacing both traditional phones and tablets. To recall, the Huawei Mate XT has a 10.2-inch display when it is fully extended. The phone could be equipped with under-display camera tech, meaning it brings a display camera hole.
