Scots Drag Race winner Lawrence Chaney pays tribute to The Vivienne after sad passing

Scots Drag Race UK winner Lawrence Chaney has taken to social media to pay tribute to The Vivienne, who passed away over the weekend.

The star, whose real name was James Lee Williams, appeared in the BBC show and also Dancing on Ice. The Vivienne tragically passed away at the age of 32, just days after sharing a final social media post.

The sad news was announced in a statement from friend and publicist Simon Jones.

He said: "It is with immense sadness that we let you know our beloved James Lee Williams - The Vivienne, has passed this weekend."

"James was an incredibly loved, warm-hearted and amazing person. Their family are heartbroken at the loss of their son, brother and uncle. They are so proud of the wonderful things James achieved in their life and career. We will not be releasing any further details. We please ask that James's family are given the time and privacy they now need to process and grieve."

And tributes have flooded in from all over the world including from Drag Race UK winner Lawrence, who took to X, formerly Twitter, and penned: "No one made me laugh like the Viv! Her impressions, her jokes. She’s the best!"

Many fans flocked to the comments to pay tribute.

One wrote: "Thinking of you and the rest of the DR UK fam right now."

Another added: "it must have been such an immense honor to have received the crown from a legend like viv. sending you hugs lawrence, may she rest in power."

The Vivienne's cause of death has not been confirmed.

The drag icon was given their colourful name thanks to her love for wearing clothing designed by the late Vivienne Westwood. The star found fame back in 2015 as the UK Drag Ambassador for the American series of Ru Paul's Drag Race.
