Selling Sunset star Chelsea Lazkani told the court she was “neither stalling nor causing” delay in her divorce from Jeff Lazkani — and accused her estranged husband of causing the case to be delayed, In Touch can exclusively report.
According to court documents obtained by In Touch, Chelsea’s powerhouse lawyer, Samantha Spector, responded to Jeff’s recent request to legally end the marriage while they continue to hash out a settlement.
Chelsea’s lawyer said the Netflix star was not the reason for the case dragging on. She said Jeff recently chose to retain and to chain to new legal counsel, “which has slowed this case down.”
Chelsea, 31, said she had no issue with the marriage being legally terminated but noted, “The documents Jeffrey seeks to be entered by this court do not offer her and the minor children sufficient protection and indemnification.”
Jeffrey has yet to respond. Back in March, Chelsea filed for divorce from Jeff after seven years of marriage.
In her petition, she cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split. Chelsea did not list a date of separation in her paperwork. The exes, who met on Tinder, share two children: 3-year-old Melia and 5-year-old Maddox. The reality star requested her ex pay her monthly spousal support.
In response, Jeff scoffed at the request for spousal support. He also asked the court to award him exclusive use of their Manhattan Beach, California, mansion.
In court, his lawyer said, “During the marriage, the parties acquired the Manhattan Beach Property for approximately $2,900,000, taking out a $500,000 mortgage against the property. The mortgage is held solely in the name of [Jeff]. [Jeff] has a $2,100,000 million separate property reimbursement claim on the Manhattan Beach Property and estimates the fair market value of the property is approximately $4,200,000. [Jeff], without contribution from [Chelsea], pays the mortgage, property taxes, and other monthly bills on the Manhattan Beach property.”
Recently, Jeff said he has been struggling to finalize a deal with Chelsea in the past seven months since they split.
He asked the judge presiding over the case to order that he be legally separated from Chelsea before the case was settled.
He said, “Irreconcilable differences have arisen that have led to the irremediable breakdown of our marriage. I do not believe that the passage of time, counseling or any other assistance by the court can save our marriage. Under no circumstances do I believe [Chelsea] and I could resolve our issues and reunify.”
He continued, “[Chelsea] and I have not been able to settle our case in the last seven months since this matter began. I would like to move forward with my life and request that this court terminate my marital status. I believe that proceeding to bifurcate status will decrease the number of issues that remain between [Chelsea] and I and will streamline the issues and help us better focus on our children and dividing our assets.”
The case is ongoing. The judge has yet to rule on the matter of support or the issues of terminating the marriage.
