Seth Meyers on Monday debunked Donald Trump and his allies’ spin that it’s the former president’s campaign — and not that of Democratic rival Kamala Harris — that is bringing the joy in the 2024 election.
Trump has claimed he is “leading a movement of optimism and confidence and hope.”
A stunned Meyers wasn’t buying it, and contrasted the GOP nominee’s boast with his increasingly authoritarian and divisive rhetoric.
As an example, the “Late Night” host aired a montage of Eric Trump, Trump’s son, boasting about the “total love” and “absolute love” of his father’s MAGA “movement.”
In the supercut, Eric Trump claimed multiple times that he’d received hugs from total strangers. Some, he said, parroting a line from his dad, had tears in their eyes.

“Look, I want to give Eric a little bit of wiggle room here because I’ve got to imagine when Donald Trump is your dad your early years are a real Sahara Desert in the hugs department,” joked Meyers.
