Two of Bollywood’s biggest stars, Shah Rukh Khan and his son Aryan Khan, are teaming up and getting back into business with Netflix.

Netflix announced today, November 19, that the father-son duo would executive produce an untitled “Bollywood series” about an outsider breaking into the Hindi film industry. The show will be created and directed by Aryan Khan in what will be his directorial debut, while SRK’s company, Red Chillies Entertainment, will executive produce the series.

According to Netflix, Khan’s untitled series is about “a charming, ambitious outsider [who] navigates the dazzling yet uncertain world of Bollywood.” Netflix adds that the series “blends self-aware humor with a high-stakes narrative — and promises a host of wicked cameos, blockbuster thrills and an unforgettable ride into the world of Indian cinema.”

The series will premiere on Netflix in 2025. No cast was announced for the project.

Though Aryan Khan himself grew up surrounded by the film industry, the series logline largely reflects his father’s experience of moving to Mumbai at a young age and breaking into cinema with no industry connections. A report from back in January via The India Times said the project would be called “Stardom” and that though it wasn’t SRK’s biopic, it would echo some moment’s of the actor’s life.

Speaking at a press event on Monday, Netflix’s VP of India Content Monika Shergill described the series as a commentary on Bollywood “from someone who grew up in the industry.”

“It’s a complete Bollywood entertainer,” Shergill said. “The drama is epic, the music is super charged, the comedy is self-aware and refreshing, and the characters are larger than life.”

The series marks Aryan Khan’s first foray into the film industry after he launched a luxury fashion brand, vodka, and malt scotch under the D’yavol brand in 2022.

Red Chillies Entertainment was founded by Shah Rukh and his wife Gauri Khan in 2002 and has produced hit Hindi films including “Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani,” “Main Hoon Na,” “My Name is Khan,” and the 2023 films “Jawan” and “Dunki” that each star Shah Rukh. The company has also partnered with Netflix in the past on a handful of TV shows, including “Bard of Blood” and “Betaal” with Netflix. Up next for SRK, he’ll be the voice of Mufasa in the Hindi version of Disney’s live-action “Lion King” sequel.

“We are excited to present this new series with Netflix that offers a refreshing look into the glamorous cinematic world and what it takes to succeed as an outsider,” Shah Rukh Khan said in a statement. “It’s a unique narrative brought to life by Aryan, many passionate minds and the team at Red Chillies Entertainment. This one’s going to be all heart, all hustle, and a whole lot of entertainment.”

Netflix on Monday teased a slate of all of its international series and films throughout 2025. Among the other Indian series coming to the streamer next year are a second season of “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar” from Indian auteur Sanjay Leela Bhansali, a second season of “Rana Naidu” as based on the English series “Ray Donovan,” and Season 3 of “Delhi Crime,” the Emmy-winning procedural that for its new season will focus on cases of human trafficking.
