Since I’ve Been Using This New Mascara, People Have Been Asking If I’m Wearing False Lashes

The wand? It's like magic.

Big, bold lashes are my thing - none of this natural nonsense where I’m concerned. I want a dramatic, blacker-than-black formula that could be mistaken for falsies - forget a barely-there wash of brown or a subtle coat of clear. I’m all about the dramatics. To be clear, I’m no loyalist when it comes to my mascaras. Over the past few months I’ve flirted with Lisa Eldridge’s Kitten Lash, £29 (ideal for even the stubbiest of lashes) andLancôme’s iconic Hypnôse Drama Mascara, £29 (new and improved, FYI) both of which I’ve loved for creating the all out 'oomph’ I crave. When I heard Benefit was launching a new mascara? I knew I had to give it a whirl - I’ve been a fan since the OG Bad Gal mascara, and, if the ever growing TikTok reviews are anything to go by, this one is worth paying attention to. Enter Benefit BADgal Bounce Volumising Mascara, £27.

One Benefit customer said: 'I tried Benefit Cosmetics BadGal Bounce Volumizing Mascara and I really like it! Compared to the other mascaras I used before, this one gives my lashes more volume and lasts longer without smudging. It's easy to apply and makes my lashes look fuller and longer. I think it's a great product, and I would buy it again for sure. I will also recommend it to my friends and family.'

Pros

  • No flaking
  • Won't clump (just find that sweet spot!)

How we tested it:

Rachael Martin, beauty editor:

'I always apply my mascara the same way - I wiggle the wand at the base of my lashes before gently dragging it through the lengths to create fanned-out volume. Where this one differs, however, is in the style of the brush. Named 'the double trouble' hybrid, the two sides of the wand serve different purposes. Now, when creating volume, I use the fiber side to layer up the formula and create volume. I'll then comb through with the other side (a fine tooth comb) to separate and define. I'll usually end up going in with around six coats in total to get the exact levels of pigment and volume I'm after.'

Final verdict:

'This mascara is a joy to use. It applies beautifully, doesn’t flake (even after a full day in the office) and leaves my lashes looking long, dark and fluffy - no spidery finish in sight. I have oily lids, so it's not unusual for my mascara to transfer and flake as the day goes on, but this one didn't budge. I love that it's also bolstering my lashes long term too, thanks to conditioning provitamin B5 and nourishing castor seed oil. And it's worth noting it's refreshingly easy to remove - simply smooth an oil based cleansing balm across and watch it melt away. It's fair to say that this (admittedly fussy) beauty editor would recommend.'
