Houston’s chilly January evening couldn’t dampen the warmth radiating from Reset Rooftop Bar during Sinead Harnett’s exclusive performance. “The world needs love, and this room is full of that,” the singer shared with her intimate audience on January 16, her gold-plated halter top glimmering under the stage lights.
“It always feels so good to sing here,” she added, as the crowd erupted in applause. Some guests raised their complimentary cocktails—which were named after a few songs from Harnett’s album Boundaries—toasting the singer’s heartfelt sentiment.
For over an hour, Harnett transformed the rooftop venue into a haven of soulful distraction, capturing the audience’s undivided attention with her buttery vocals and soothing R&B beats. For fans of the genre, it was a dream come true.
Harnett’s exclusive show served as part of Complex and Verizon’s 5G Home “Concerts In The City” series, a four-part live music event featuring artists from various genres performing in intimate venues across the United States. The 35-year-old singer’s stop in Houston kicked off the launch of this unique experience.
The evening began traditionally enough, with guests waiting in line outside before being escorted to Reset’s third floor. The lounge, bathed in moody lighting and promotional flyers for Harnett’s performance, quickly filled as attendees sought cozy seating or lined up at the bar to sample signature Boundaries-inspired cocktails.
As attendees settled in, DJ GO.CWATTS immediately set the mood with her R&B-inspired set. The Memphis-born mixer covered plenty of ground, weaving in moody music.
When Harnett finally took the stage, she was greeted with roaring cheers. “Houston, how we feeling?!” the singer joyously said as she greeted the audience. Despite the icy winds trickling into the bar, the aura that night was warm. The singer-songwriter treated the show like an early album listening party even though the record had been out for more than seven months. She gave her thoughts about each track she performed as the instrumental hummed low in the background.
Harnett aptly began her set with two tracks from Boundaries: “Thinking Less” and “The Most,” before charging into one of the greatest ballads in her discography, 2018’s “Body.” She stunned the crowd with her vocals, easing in several smooth runs where silence would normally be. She then performed her biggest hit “If You Let Me,” before closing the intimate gig with a club remix of “Unconditional” from 2017’s “Chapter One.”
“I love you, Houston. I can’t wait to come back soon,” Harnett said with a blissful smile, the audience’s final cheers confirming they would be ready, ticket in hand to witness whatever upcoming show she had in mind.
Harnett’s intimate performance wasn’t just a concert; it was a masterclass in connection, making it the perfect kickoff for Complex and Verizon 5G Home Internet “Concerts in the City” series.
