Sir Elton John, 77, reveals his dream final meal after overhauling diet

Sir Elton John has overhauled his diet after suffering a health scare and his dream final meal would be a sugar-filled situation.

The 77-year-old singer has made a concerted effort to control his blood sugar levels in recent times, after being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in the early 2000s and battling a ‘severe eye infection’ earlier this year.

Chatting on Ruthie’s Table 4 podcast, the Rocketman hitmaker said: ‘I can have an apple, I can eat a bit of melon. As long as you’re sensible about it, it doesn’t shoot your blood sugar up. But what I crave is chocolate and ice cream – I can’t have any ice cream.’

Despite this, Sir Elton revealed that his dream meal would still be full of sugar-filled desserts.

The award-winning star – who is married to filmmaker David Furnish – said: ‘If I had a death row meal, it wouldn’t contain anything except sweets, because I can’t eat them now. So, I’d have ice cream, doughnuts, apple pie, rhubarb crumble.’

Sir Elton has dealt with various health issues over the years, including having surgery for prostate cancer, getting his eye infection, and being diagnosed with diabetes.

The singer detailed his most-recent problem in an Instagram post in September.

He said: ‘Over the summer, I’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye. I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.

‘I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks.

‘I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far.

The legendary Are You Ready For Love? hitmaker took to the stage at London’s O2 last year for his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, and finished his touring career with a bang as a Glastonbury Festival headliner.

Sir Elton’s diet overhaul comes after he was mocked online as he struggled to walk in a viral video alongside his husband David Furhish, 62, and fans leapt to his defence.

In October, the rock legend bleakly declared there’s ‘not much of me left’ as he listed all the organs he is missing.

‘To be honest with you, there’s not much of me left. I don’t have tonsils, adenoids or an appendix. I don’t have a prostate,’ he said, via People Magazine. ‘I don’t have a right hip or a left knee or a right knee.

‘In fact, the only thing left to me is my left hip. But I’m still here. And I can’t thank you [enough], you’re the people that made me.

‘I want to thank David, Zachary and Elijah for making me the happiest man in the world.

‘I found complete and utter happiness and bliss when I met David, and when I had my children, our children. And it satisfied me so much. I’ve never felt happiness like I have now.’
