Sir Elton John returned to the limelight with a special performance at the 2024 A Year in TIME dinner in New York City this week.

Earlier this month, Sir Elton, 77, revealed live on stage that he "lost his eyesight and can't see the atage" while at the West End production of The Devil Wears Prada. The RocketMan star's legion of loyal fans sent their well wishes to Elton after he made the admission on stage in London while supported by his husband, David Furnish.

He went on to say at the time: "As some of you may know I have had issues and now I have lost my sight. I haven't been able to see the performance but I have enjoyed it. To my husband who’s been my rock because I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews... it's hard for me to see it but I love to hear it and it sounded good tonight OK. Thank you for coming!"

Almost two weeks after revealing the news to fans, Sir Elton returned to the stage to perform at Current at Chelsea Piers for the 2024 A Year in TIME dinner. The Rocket Man singer was named TIME's Icon of the Year. Sir Elton looked delighted to return to the stage as he rocked a lilac suit and a patterned shirt.

Sir Elton also posed on the red carpet with Billy Porter - who introduced him on stage during the event. Meanwhile, Elton told fans about his eyesight battles in September, sharing on his social media that he was "healing" but that his recovery had been slowed down.

He noted that the recovery process is "extremely slow" and added: "I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far."

Despite his recent health struggles, the icon has been jet-setting around the globe, with recent appearances in New York and London for the opening of his new musicals, Tammy Faye on Broadway and The Devil Wears Prada, which has reportedly caused concern among his friends.

"Elton's friends are seriously concerned about how much he has taken on and believe it is having a major impact on his health," an insider told The Sun. "Quite a few people who he is close to have now encouraged him to slow down because he has been busier than ever this year."

"He isn't getting any younger and his health has been deteriorating in the past few years."
