Sister Wives stars Breanna Brown and Aurora Brown opened about potentially returning to the Apostolic United Brethren, a Mormon fundamentalist group. Their mother, Robyn Brown, is a member of the church, but Robyn’s husband, Kody Brown, has distanced himself in recent months.
“Kody has really intense feelings about our church,” Robyn, 46, said in a clip from the Sunday, December 8 episode shared by TLC via Instagram.
Kody, 55, admitted that Robyn’s “been really, really frustrated with [him] sort of withdrawing from the church that she grew up in.”
“One thing that’s kind of pushed me a little bit more towards it was the Buddhism class that I took last semester,” Aurora, 22, said during a conversation with her mom and Breanna, 20, in the scene. “I wanted that to be a lot more part of my life than it is.”
When she added that she wanted to “have a community,” Breanna chimed in and added that she “really wanted that in [her] life.”
Breanna continued, “I want to start dating guys who kind of believe the same thing and the same, like, life goals as me, so I think that would probably be a good place to start.”
Robyn suggested that Breanna might benefit from having “some girlfriends” with similar beliefs as well. Breanna agreed and said that she “really wanted to connect in that way.”
However, Robyn had some hesitations regarding Breanna and Aurora’s reasons for wanting to return to the church.
“I know that they’re interested in dating, you know, a guy that has similar beliefs, but I’m like, ‘OK, that shouldn’t be the reason why you’re at a church,” the mom of five told the cameras during a one-on-one interview. “I want them to focus on their spiritual journey more than anything at this point, and then that type of thing has a tendency to fall into place.”
Since the episode, which was filmed over two years ago, it appears as though Aurora and Breanna have found a new church to call home with United Hope Church in Flagstaff, Arizona. It’s a Pentecostal church and the website describes the church as “a place where people can meet Jesus, engage in life-giving community, and where everyone is welcome.”
“Our mission is to LOVE like Jesus, EQUIP the believer and to MULTIPLY God’s kingdom. It’s our desire to do life together not just Sunday mornings. Welcome to the family!” the About page on the website reads.
Kody and Robyn’s youngest son, Solomon Brown, also reportedly attends services at the church, according to an article from Distractify published on December 5, 2024.
None of Kody’s 18 children have followed in his path when it comes to practicing polygamy, and a few of them have been outspoken in their decision to not be a part of the plural marriage lifestyle.
“I don’t want to do plural marriage,” Aspyn Brown, Kody’s daughter whom he shares with ex-wife Christine Brown, said in November 2015. “I kind of feel bad that none of us want to, but it was just not what we were meant to do, I guess.”
