Ahead of the release of their new album Missionary, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre shared the new track "Another Part of Me," which features The Police frontman Sting.
The Dre-produced single is built around an interpolation of The Police's 1979 hit "Message in a Bottle," with Snoop singing and rapping in the original song's melody. He drops references to multiple Tom Cruise movies while the distinctive guitar line from "Message in a Bottle" loops in the background.
Sting provides the second verse with a delivery that's more rap-adjacent than his typical reggae-influenced new wave vocals. It's a curious pairing, but it's clear a lot of thought went into the collaboration.
The single is taken from Snoop Dogg's forthcoming album Missionary, which is produced by Dr. Dre and serves as a 31-year celebration of their work on the west coast hip-hop landmark Doggystyle. Alongside Sting, the project is set to feature appearances from Jhene Aiko, BJ the Chicago Kid, Jelly Roll, 50 Cent, Eminem, Method Man, and the late Tom Petty.
Missionary is set to arrive on Friday, Dec. 13. Listen to "Another Part of Me" above.
Recently, Snoop Dogg found himself the subject of some lyrics on Kendrick Lamar's surprise new album GNX. On the song "Wacced Out Murals," Lamar rapped, "Snoop posted 'Taylor Made,' I prayed it was the edibles/I couldn't believe it, it was only right for me to let it go."
The line refers to Drake's diss record against Kendrick Lamar, "Taylor Made." The song, which has since been removed by Drizzy, used AI technology to change Drake's voice to Snoop Dogg and 2Pac. "It was the edibles west west king," Snoop responded on social media.
