Son Goes Through Baby Clothes Mom Kept for Decades—Shock at What He Finds

A couple from Minnesota have shared a trip they took down memory lane when going through old baby clothes, surprising TikTok users with the "goldmine" of vintage items.

Kristin and John Heater, both 26, were invited by John's mom to come over and sift through some of the outfits he wore as a child, which she'd saved since the 1990s.

Among the treasures, which they shared in a video on TikTok (@kristinheater), were blue corduroy overalls, a reversible Mickey Mouse sweater and a pair of Guess sneakers.

"I didn't realize it would be a whole tub of baby clothes or that we would love all of them. They were all in such great condition and it was so much fun going through them all with my husband and mother-in-law and hearing the memories she had of John wearing the clothes," Kristin told Newsweek.

And with the couple expecting their first child, a baby boy, in March, they plan to put the clothes to good use. "I can't wait to dress him in the same clothes his dad wore when he was a baby," Kristin told Newsweek.

Some pieces have stains, but the mom-to-be already has a backup plan. "I might try and make a baby blanket out of them or some other craft to keep them," she said.

TikTok Users React

Kristin's clip has been viewed 2.4 million times and received 290,000 likes. Almost 2,000 users have commented, with many moms saying that they also plan to save baby clothes for their grandchildren, like John's mom.

"Okay, that's it, I'm saving two tubs of baby clothes, one for each of my boys whenever they grow up and have their own babies," one wrote.

Meanwhile others commented on the value of the vintage clothes, with one saying the Heaters were "sitting on a goldmine" and another posting: "Girl, that stuff is worth money."

Several moms were surprised by how much more fun the clothes were than modern offerings. "Everything is so colorful! I'm sick of all the beige these days," said one viewer, and a second said: "I love 90s baby clothes. Clothes that aren't beige and actually look like they're for kids!"

Another TikToker said: "the way clothes used to be STURDY and QUALITYYY."

Kristin told Newsweek that the reaction online was much bigger than she'd expected. "It has been so fun reading all the comments from moms who have decided to keep some baby clothes for their kids when they are older after seeing my video; people obsessing over how cute all the clothes are and some people saying they have the exact same pieces saved for their kids," she said.
