Spice Girls 'given stern ultimatum by TV bosses as Netflix scoop up troubled drama series'

Geri Halliwell, Victoria Beckham, Mel B, Mel C and Emma Bunton have reportedly been in talks for a TV series to mark 30 years since their hit Wannabe was released as they shot to stardom

The Spice Girls are set to be the subject of a tell-all TV drama whether they are involved or not, according to reports.

The girl group exploded onto the music scene in 1996 and went on to be one of the most successful British bands in the world. Geri Halliwell, 51, Victoria Beckham, 50, Mel B, 49, Mel C, 50, and Emma Bunton, 48, had worldwide success and went on to release two albums before Ginger Spice sensationally quit.

To mark 30 years since the release of their hit Wannabe, there are plans to make a biopic series about the girls. The remaining four members released a third album after Geri's exit before disbanding and not performed together as a five since the London Olympics of 2012.

They appeared to be on good terms earlier this year as they reunited for Victoria's 50th birthday bash, yet there have been reports of tensions brewing since. It has suggested the group risk being torn apart over plans for the series about their careers and lives with Geri reportedly calling for the breaks to be slammed.

Netflix have taken on the project and have issued a stark ultimatum to the band. "Executives are keen to have all the group on board providing as much input as possible - after all they are pop royalty," a source told the Sun. "But Netflix are the organisation who defied the wishes of real royalty and went ahead and made The Crown, so they aren’t afraid to go it alone when they have to.

"The project is in its very early stages so there’s plenty of time to get all five Spice Girls involved." They added the Spice Girls must "work with each other, and with the producers, to make it happen." Left Bank Pictures, who made the iconic Netflix series The Crown, have reportedly planned to make a biopic series about the girls.

Last month, it was claimed Geri wasn't too happy. A source told the outlet: "It would have seen five actresses taking on the roles of Posh, Ginger, Scary, Sporty and Baby. The venture would have landed them all pay deals of around £1million for essentially not lifting a finger. But as the negotiations ramped up, the others were told Geri had objected. The plans have basically been thrown out."

The source added: "They wanted to have the agreement of all of the band and without Geri it’s hard to make it happen.” Just a few months ago, Mel B branded her fellow bandmates "d**kheads" for banning her from a group chat. The I Want You Back singer made the surprise comment while starring in an episode of Never Mind The Buzzcocks in a 90s special.

Mel was asked why her fellow Spice Girls booted her from their group chat, and she said: “Because I’m Northern and say what I think and feel and I’m constantly saying to the girls, ‘We need to go back on tour’.” Asked for more details, the Feels So Good singer quipped: “Because they’re d**kheads.”
