Hollywood star and cooking guru Stanley Tucci has once again gone viral for his latest kitchen hack, clocking up more than 5.5 million views for his bizarre technique.

Looking after hefty wooden chopping boards can often be an ordeal, but not for the Hunger Games star who was up bright and early to clean his chopping board with a new technique that has shocked many home cooks.

The actor ignores lots of the conventional ways of cleaning on old boards tossing aside the sandpaper and board scrapers instead of opting for the trusty old-fashioned kitchen knife.

The 64-year-old proceeds to slowly drag the knife's blade along the board, scraping away the top layer of grime and dirt and revealing the fresh wooden surface beneath.

However, not everyone is convinced by the actors' cleaning antics, with his unorthodox methods driving some fans up the wall, furious at the damage it could cause to the rather expensive-looking knife.

One commentor said: "I love everything this man does except this... THE POOR KNIFE!" while another added: " Mr Tucci, I’m sure you’ve got plenty of money to replace that knife. But it’s a shame to damage it. You can get a bench scraper to do the same thing."

His wife Felicity Blunt was also quick to jibe at her husband, but was seemingly more concerned at the time he chose for his cleaning spree than with concern over the knife.

In the video she can be heard adding: "Do you think you're the only man or woman who wakes up and at 7.45am decided that's how they're going to start their day."

Stanley replied: "Well, I kept looking at it over the days and I just thought 'I can't look at it anymore' so I'm going do this before we get them off to school."

While for many the morning school run can be a frantic time, in the Tucci household it is a much calmer affair, even having time to seal the block with oil before the kids are even away.

Aside from Hollywood blockbusters, the actor has become famous online for his passion for food, even leading to his very own culinary travel show around Italy and a collaboration with cookware brand Greenpan to create his own stylish line of pans.

Cookware experts at Robert Welch advise a slightly different, less aggressive method involving lemon juice and salt. They suggest a quick hand wash before drying immediately. Then rub salt over the board's surface and squeeze half a lemon over it, making sure the board is completely covered.

Slowly massage the salt into the board using the lemon before rinsing the mixture off and drying completely. The final step is to use suitable food-safe oil, not olive oil, and leave it to dry.
